Lightbulb Teen Driving School - Sun. 11/8/09

The Sir Isaac Newton's Totally Awesome Driving School will be held on Sunday, November 8th, 2009 RAIN or SHINE at Kena Shriners, 9001 Arlington Boulevard, Fairfax VA 22031, from 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM.

Driving is applied physics, hence the name of the driving school. Your teen driver will learn car control and real world driving skills in this class from knowledgeable and experienced instructors through a series of challenging exercises designed to extend his or her skills and thinking. Everything is done at slow speeds in a very safe environment.

This driving school is free of charge and includes a gourmet pizza lunch. Seating is limited. Sorry, no drive-ins, car sharing, trucks, SUVs, minivans, or vans. At least 1 parent or guardian must stay, attend classroom sessions, and ride with their teen driver. Corvette club membership is not required. More information will be sent to registrants before the event.

By the way, 25 cents is collected for each cone killed in the exercises, so bring plenty of quarters. At the end of the day, the proceeds are donated to a charity of the group's choice.

This is a rain or shine event. That means if it is raining, please still show up! Rain makes everyone worse drivers including adults.

Please remember, ALL instructors and volunteers are just that, volunteers. These ladies and gentlemen have all volunteered their time for a cause that they all strongly believe in - the safety of our youth while driving on the streets these days!

VERY IMPORTANT! Registration for this event starts at 6:45 AM!!! Please be on time. Class starts at 7:45 AM and you need to register and have your vehicle teched beforehand. Those who show up late will not be able to participate in the event. Both students and parents must make the morning classroom session. This event will run until about 5:15 PM where we will hand out certificates and a short debrief.

Here is a list of things to remember beforehand so please read them carefully!

1) NO Trucks, SUVs, or Vans of any type!!! They are rollover hazards and our insurance WILL NOT allow them! Please don’t show up in one because we will be forced to decline your entry into the event.

2) The day before the event, check the tire pressures on the vehicle. Please make sure they have proper inflation.

3) Clean everything out of the vehicle, including the items in the trunk. Spare tire and related equipment are OK. There is no place to store the items so please leave them at home.

4) Make sure your vehicle has a FULL tank of gas! This is an all day hands-on event.

5) When you arrive please pay attention to all the volunteers. They will send you to the proper areas. The very first thing you will do is register and then proceed to have your car teched. When you are done with that, you will be instructed where to park your car. Don’t worry, we will have a small army of volunteers to help you out.

6) Coffee and doughnuts will be provided for everyone throughout the morning and day along with lunch and snacks provided by several of our sponsors. So don't worry about food or drinks, they are on us!

7) Many of our sponsors will be at the event firsthand helping out. Without their support and help these events could not be provided for free to everyone. Please give a few minutes of your time throughout the day to thank them and show them your support for this great cause.

8) We are going to test your minds and abilities all day long with real life situations! Your parents will not only learn too, but will gain trust and confidence in your abilities to drive day to day and in emergency situations. You will be tired at the end of the day!

9) At the end of the day we will ask you and your parents to fill out an evaluation of the class. Please take a little time to fill that out. It helps us to continue to improve this program each time we do it.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you!

Okay, I found a few hours today to render the video 9 times so that I could shrink it small enough to post on Photobucket. A lot of us put a lot of time and effort into making this video and we believe that it can help the public understand what it is that we're really doing here.

Please spread the word and send this link out to others so we can motivate them to get involved and help the teen drivers out there. Thanks guys. Here is the link, AND IT WORKS THIS TIME...

Sheik: I checked out the video. Nice Job.

Paul should definitely add this to his laptop to display at events where we have a projector or flatscreen capability.

Anybody wanna make a quick and easy $75? We're flying our niece in for the teen driving school on 11-08-09 & were planning on renting a rear wheel drive AUTOMATIC car for her to drive (all our cars are manual transmissions). We want her to take the class in a rwd because we think she'll learn more, especially on the skid pad. Well, you guessed it, most rental places won't guarantee that we'll get a rwd. Anybody wanna make a quick & easy $75 by letting us rent your automatic rwd car for her to use? We'd need to pick it up on 11-07 so we don't have to wake you up at 5am on the 8th... Just shoot me an email at asheikh74@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Exclamation update

As of right now, we still have 17 spots open. Sign up your teen driver or pass this along to any you may know. You'll be glad you did...and, it's free!

Great Teen driving school! Over 40 written evaluation forms indicated NVCC continues to do the right thing. Thanks to Miriam, the volunteers who worked tiressly, the instructors, the Shriner's facility and finally the weatherman who brought our best TDS ever. Fabulous!
