SKi Chalet (several stores in the DC area) has a demo day on Thurs 1/13/05 at Wisp resort in eastern Maryland. Lift tickets are only $2. If you like to ski and can get away that day, I will be meeting a bunch of skiers from the airlines. Join us.
More people = more fun.
Every dollar that you save somewhere else can be spent on your Vette, even if it is only gas.
You have to get your lift tickets at their stores for the discount. If anyone is interested, post here for meeting details.

Sounds like fun! Have you skiied there before Dave? How does it compare to White Tail?

Let me know if you get sufficient details and interest, and I will post it to the club website and send a club e-mail. [:)]
Sorry, no skiing for me. Hate winter plus I'm debating on having my second foot surgery b4 or after VIR. [:((]

Sounds like fun, too bad they don't give out the boots for the equipment too. Anybody have a pair of snowboard boots in size 10.5 E or 11E I can borrow?

See...that's where I would be. Literally...like...laying down, falling, wiping out several groups of small children....

Don't kid yourself. Most of those 'rugrats' can ski better at two then an adult over 50 can.
It's pretty awesome watching them skiing. [B-)] No fear! Of course not having very far to fall might have something to do with it. When they do go down, it's like a rubber ball. They just bounce back up. [:D]

Mike, you continue to be a great source of information. Thanks for the trail map. Do you have a second job with Jeeve's?
I haven't been to Wisp, but I have been to Whitetail. I expect a similar experience. Not as awesome as Utah, but not as far to drive- and way less expensive with the $2 lift tickets.
Andre, I think they will rent anything that gets you on the slope. I thought those snowboarders just strapped the board to their Nikes...nothing special needed?

Nah but thanks for the prop [:D] 7-10 years ago a bunch of us made day trips to all the slopes around here. Liberty, WhiteTail, RoundTop, Blue Knob, Seven Springs.
Did "Mass of Nothin" once, a couple of week trips to SnowShoe and a long weekend to TimberLine. Wanted to try Wisp but could never talk anyone into the trip.
Everyone moved on and I haven't had anyone to go with since. Just isn't the same unless you can chase someone down the mountain. [:D] [;)] [B-)]

I'm certain to go. My wife, 2 flight attendants and 1 pilot for sure(probably more that I don't know about.)
It doesn't look like it would take much of a nudge to get Sarver on board.
I think Jeff NEEDS to go, just for the experience. I'll buy his lift ticket for him. [:D]

SOUNDS like a challenge to me! [:D] I know Jim B would give him the day off {if for no other reason then to have the pics to post in the newsletter} [:D] [:))]

I think someone is thinking...."Hmm..Jeff..skiing..broken leg...new C6 Z06 paid for"
While I profess to be more athletic than alot (playing racquetball, softball, lifting, etc.), be assured you will never see my graceful form in a ballet (God my fat butt in those tights?)...or dancing on ABC :)

I'd be in if I had two good arms! Although I see the neurologist again on the 4th, I can ask him what he thinks then. I got in one day of skiing last year, early in the season....I'd love to be able to spend a day on the bunny slopes [;)]
Jeff...a couple of runs down the bunny slope, a great time spent in the bar with the locals and ski pros...makes for a fun day!

Whoa! I just looked at the map and saw how far away Wisp is. Probably 2.5 hrs from here, give or take.
We have one guest for the night before, but there is room for another 3-4 people at my house if anyone wants to get a headstart the night before.
A couple of people plan to stay at a hotel near the slopes the night before. I guess alot depends on the weather.
I'm still planning on going. If things change at the last minute, at least I won't be going to work that day.

Well it's a 3 hour drive for me from Springfield. The slopes are open from 9:00 - 9:00, demo equipment available from 9:30 - 2:30.
Leaving here about 5:30 should put me there just about right...
Andrej, Jen are you guys still thinking about it?
Of course, I could always do a 007, put the skis on the vette and get there in ~2 - 2.5 hrs. [:D]

At the moment I'm planning on driving the Vette, which should make it an easy drive. [:D] However, I have to be back in Sterling by 6:30, so I'll be leaving around 2pm!

Picked my lift ticket up from Ski Chalet at lunch today. I couldn't believe how slow they were. Must have been the 'after Xmas' blues.
Spent a little time window shopping. They have some real nice equipment but stuff is even more expensive then I remember. [:O]

I could meet you near the I-81/I-70 intersection, or even in the parking lot at the base. Give me another day to think about it. Is there a roadside rest near there?
I'll get a cell phone # to you soon.

If it rains, none of will do much skiing even after the drive.
I'm hanging in there for now, Mike. Tough to make Mother Nature to do something against her will.
Will post again tomorrow.

I'm going to back out on this one Dave. I'm only out the $2.00 for the lift ticket. If I drove all the way out there and it rains like it is predicting I would really be upset.
What with the warm weather and the rain they have been getting it sounds like they are loosing base and shutting down trails as well.

Can't blame you, Mike. Everyone has given up on this week. You never know when it will be good to ski locally, but taking only a $2 gamble is low risk.
We've been watching the resort webpage all week, and rain is predicted.
We better get all this winter stuff over before midFeb.
Keep your skiis waxed and ready for later.
