Has anyone heard of the computer in an '87 going bad? There are apparently no readings coming off mine and I have been quoted a replacement cost of $500. I also have an after-market performance chip in my car and am wondering if that might be the cause.
Any thoughts?

I'll bet its the chip. Who burned it?

The ECM itself can and may be bad - I have had this happen to my 89 Y body (both of them, regardless of mileage / age) and 89 F body
Joe @ Koons knew right away what the problem was [B-)]
Hope this helps
