That's okay, just save up your money for next year! Get the shocks and bushings done and then do a HPDE event in the Spring to get your NCCC high speed license for Spook next year. [;)]

I just bought a new house [=D>] ... but I'm thinking maybe if I can get everything moved-in the weekend before...
... Now that I have the slicks ... I want to run the big track.
So Mike, keep me as a maybe. I'll catch up with you and Ralph at Spook.

I understand completely. Would have been great to have you there but sometimes the 'other' things have priority.

Well, he could always come up and stay with you Sat. Night . . . . . . [:D]
He can take you out on the town Friday
Tell him you feel the need for speed, and he doesn't need to spring for that diamond whatever (at least until next year)
Tell him that it will be an experience you'll never forget. Every time you think about it you'll remember he made it possible.
Good Luck!

True, although he'll be bored senseless if he comes with me...WV not exactly a happenin' place, especially if you're not into race car driving stuff. Can he be a spectator and watch? Is there anything else to do around there? I doubt he can tolerate a whole day of cars spinning around a race track.
I'm still waiting for that "what would you like for your birthday?" question but haven't gotten it yet. I suck at hinting. Ask me, dang it! It's less than 2 weeks away...[:((]
I'll probably be forced to sacrifice the usual birthday night on the town Friday night b/c of the expense of the school/hotel room/etc...no big deal, I suppose. Still trying to finagle a way...

At the event in PA there were quite a few folks that were just spectators. Maybe Mike, Ralph or Woodsie can chime in ad let you know if spectators are allowed at Summit.
Just tell him what you want for your birthday - sheesssh WOMEN!

Well he could always 'cage' rides from Ralph, myself or anyone else in Group III.
The Horse track will be open so he can play the slots.
He can spectate and take pictures. There are a lot of different places around the track that he can get to.
I don't think he'd be into the horse track...but maybe I can con him into taking pics if I get him a digital camera? I was gonna buy one for my business and write off as a biz expense anyway. Man, this is getting to be one expensive weekend!
Just come out and say "Honey {drool sweetness} have you gotten my B-day gift yet?"
{pregnant pause for effect while cuddling close... }
"There is something I would just LOVE to have"
[:D] [>:)]
That probably wouldn't work, we're not the "drooly sweetie" type of couple. [:-&] Still thinking...[:-?]

Good times, great friends, great weather... what more can you ask for?
It was a great weekend for all {discounting the problem I had with the injector fuses blowing}
Driving the 96 (base suspension, stock motor, automatic and 2.73 gears) was definitely a learning experience.
You need to ask Woodsie about the Porsche he was playing with. [>:)]
There were some strong cars out there and it was a good group to drive with.
We ended up with Andrej, Jack McAfee from Richmond, Dave Rankin, Mike & Irene, Ralph and myself. A lot of "bench racing" was going on between sessions as we sit on Mile's trailer, relaxing and enjoying the sunshine.
The temps were a little chilly Saturday and Sunday in the morning but warmed up nicely by 11:00 or so each day.
The only thing that would have made it better would have been to have the '86 running and to have had a few more friends there to enjoy it.
<cheers>

Actually, the first track event (FATT) that I did was with the '96 but that was 4 years ago.
It wasn't so much that there was anything wrong with the '96. More like there was so much difference between the '86 and the '96. Not just power, but handling, braking, everything was different.

Yes you are.
Mike went from driving a race car on the track to driving a street car on the track.
I enjoyed the heck out of driving my 88 out on the track. It will be a huge learning experience.

Converting the '86 was a gradual process that happened over 3 years. So while there might have been a couple of 'giant steps' forward, there weren't any leaps.
But as James said, "Yes you are." You will always remember your first time. [B-)]

You need to ask Woodsie about the Porsche he was playing with.
All I can say is it was a Porche 930 full race car and he was very fast. The 930 could pull me down the front straight if I didn't have good exit speed out of turn 10. When I caught him I was able to hang right on his bumper. I had Irene in the Z06 and told her its about to get serious. So for about five laps at 10/10ths I was able to pass him coming out of turn 10 (better exit speed). After the run, I talked with the driver he's an instructor for PCA and when I told him that Irene was in the car his eyes bugged out of his heads and said "WHAT!". He also asked what I did to the car and its so fun to say just "Tires and Brake pads".
I know Ralph can share a bit more because he had front row seating for a while [;)]
I can not explain the feeling on whats its like to be fender to fender against a very good driver in a very fast car. Yes I was able to pass him but, even if I didn't it still would have been RUSH!! Adrenalin, endorphins, ego ? Don't know

I like your Miata and I told you so. [;)]
The reason they were lookin at the car is because its was one of the fastest cars on the track. Not because it was a Z06 (there were plenty of Vettes there including I think 3 more Z06's) Yellow helps but, People always ask me what I did to it. I tell them Brake Pads and Tires. They can't believe it...Its kind of flattering and insulting at the same time. Its all about seat time, I have done alot of events this year to learn the characteristics about the Z06 and I am coming up to speed. Can't wait til next year

As for my front row seat... I grabbed that one on the main straight by looking in my rearview mirror and seeing a black Porche screaming up behind with Mike on his bumper. I gave two quick point-bys and, voila, I had my front row seat . BTW, there's nothing like the sound when you're hitting triple digits and two 130+ mph cars blow past you. [:D] With the Porche in the lead and Mike tucked in behind and me following we all dove into turn one, accelerated out of turn two with neither Mike nor the Porche having much of an advantage over the other. By the time I was tracking out of turn three they were already flying down the chute in four and my opportunity for close observation was gone in a flash. [:((] Oh well, it was great while it lasted! Go Corvettes!
It was great running with you. I always learn alot following you when I'm not "overdriving" while trying to hang with you in the carrousel [;)]. I think that's one of the reasons we, as a club, seem to do well. We run the tracks together and really critique ourselves against one another. I know I couldn't have progressed as I have without everyone's "push". Thanks to you all [=D>]. I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR (Yes, I know I was yelling).
Woods977
11-09-2004, 07:38 PM
Thats why I followed you around Ralph. If you don't have anyone pushing/following you then you won't improve. When I come up on another car regardless of what car. I will follow them around at least one lap unless their line stinks then I pass. If you follow them around most cars will be faster than you are at differnet parts of the track. You learn from that, how did they go faster there? I followed alot Miata's and M3's in turn 5,6,7 and 8 for a long time to see how they go there cars rotated etc. Now its cool to get a point by's in those turns by Miata's and M3's.

Oh, I almost forgot, Mike S and I were talking with Chris Cabetto and he worked a deal with some tire distributors (I don't remember if he said who) to provide up to two sets of race tires per season to instructors for free. To qualify for them, however, you'd have to instruct at a specified number of events during the year for one set and basically all the events to get both sets. He also worked a deal for brake pads but I'm not sure if those were free or heavily discounted. That, along with free track time surely is attractive. Anyway, I'm still planning to attend the NASA Instructor 1 course at VIR in February and the Instructor 2 course at VIR in July and then determine if I have what it takes to sit in the right-hand seat. Anyone else interested?

I think it is true, Mike, that your feel for the car is what lets you go fast. That yellow car is becoming an extension of your right leg. It doesn't matter which shoes you wear.
I am suspicious of Irene in the passenger seat. Has anyone investigated her? Is she from the Bondurant school or something?
I think she is lending more than ballast. [:D]

Hey,
Just wanted to chime in and say I had a great time this weekend with Andrej, Mike & Mike & Ralph. Good seeing everybody there. If what my instructor I had this weekend tells me is true, looks like I got myself moved up to group 3 for next year.
Now I'll need more HP, more brakes, more roll cage. Maybe just another more modern Vette, to keep up with you guys.
Anybody going to VIR with Chin Motorsports in December? I'll be there on Sunday only. My son Zach is graduating from college that Saturday the 11th. And for all the money I spent on that college education. I want to see the finish!
Later - Jack -

Hey Jack!
It was great having you there. Looking forward to running with you next year in HPDE3.
I'm through for the season. Now its time to start doing mods, major maint., etc. I need to find the electrical problem, replace the brake master cylinder, and start on the rest of the upgrades, suspension, exhaust, seats and maybe a full cage if funds permit.
Congrats on your son graduating. Its a big day for sure. My oldest {step} daughter graduated in May after 5 {long} years.
I've decided to do VIR in February even if the '86 isn't finished. I'll run the '96 again if I have to.

Hey Guys, remember that Honda Civic that was practicing with the big bore guys? Well, I went on the NASA Virginia website and looked at the results of Saturday's races and he turned 1:25s consistently with a best lap of 1:24.11!! Check out the times of the Honda Challenge cars...amazing (www.nasaracing.com). From what I understand they're running about 200hp at around 2000 lbs.

Check out the times of the Honda Challenge cars...amazing (www.nasaracing.com). From what I understand they're running about 200hp at around 2000 lbs.
That's rockin in a Civic!!!! [B-)]
