Damn it ... just when I found sometime to fix the brakes, lower it, put on new brakes & rotors, put the hoosiers on, etc... I found that the brake caliper boots have melted away. [8-}]
The caliper seals are fine and the calipers work fine. Does anyone know if you can change the boots without disassembling
the calipers? I've ordered new boots and seals just in case, but they won't be here for 3-5 days [#-o] . Does anybody around here stock these parts??? [[-o<]
Spook is only 5 business days away. I think I'm going to be ... [:-&]

...and this surprises you? [:O] Check out the boots around your ball joints also. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't starting to deterioate also.
Should be able to get the re-build kit from Koon's or NAPA. The boots are there to keep brake dust and garbage out of your seals and off the pistons. You can run without them but the pistons could get scoured and start to drag.

John, These are just dust boots. They do not seal the brake fluid. You will burn them up everytime you go out on the track. I never change them out and have never had any brake problems.

Thanks Mike! You are right. I just took the calipers of the car and took a closer look. They're just bs dust covers.
And btw do you change out the caliper bracket bolts when you change the rotors. It's recommended in the shop manual, but I thinking I'd just use liquid lock on the old bolts. What do you recommend?

I have never changed bolts. I use red locktite

Hi John,
Concerning the bolts. I'll reuse them in a pinch, however, those bolts are torqued to 160 ft lbs (+or-10). When a bolt is tightened, the threads actually stretch. That's why the manual recommends one-time use. I, however, have not had any problem with reuse and using red locktite. As for the dust boots, one session and they're toast (literally!). Don't waste your money. And finally, try rockauto.com for your rotors. Raybestos rotors for about $20 for the C5. Mine normally are $96 wholesale and are $42 through Rock Auto. See you at Spook!
