Our elite caravan of 6 beeeeautiful 'vettes left Leesburg at 8 AM and took a nice drive up through Point of Rocks, Maryland all the way into Gettysburg, Pennsylvania before descending upon the quaint village of Carlisle, which was transformed into one big city jumping with Corvettes of all years and colors. When we finally arrived at the fairgrounds, swallowed up by 'vette traffic, we were met with parking lots crowded with America's favorite sportscar. It was a veritable sea of 'vettes! Basically, a Corvette lover's dream...

Most spent the day battling the 90-degree heat and gleaming sunshine by strolling through the fairgrounds with bottled water or snow-cone in hand and enjoying vendor displays, car auctioning, parts swap meet, and of course, the new C6. There was even a bubblegum PINK C6 on display.[:-&]

Personally, I have never seen so many Grand Sports, 35th anniversary triple-whites, and 40th anniversary ruby reds all lined up in huge rows all unto themselves. It was quite amusing to see 20 of the same car...felt kind of like a car dealership with LOTS of inventory!

Definitely a great but BUSY day in the Keystone state...looking forward to the craziness next year already! Mark your calendars...the next Corvettes at Carlisle is August 26-28, 2005. Let's get an even BIGGER caravan for next year's Saturday run...[:D]

Sounds like standard fair for Carlisle. I'm sorry I missed it but I just had too many other things to get done.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount and types of things that are For Sale.

Arrived home this afternoon after spending Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Carlisle. Sunburnt, tired, and broke, it was a great time. I managed to pick a few diecast up for my collectiong, found a beautiful picture of Rat Fink (Older guys know what I mean), two 63 exhaust bezels, coupe of NCRS Shirts, and what I intended to buy I found, a 3/4 HP two speed metal polishing machine (professional type) with all metal base and all the poslishing sticks, wheels, cleaner, etc. I plan to start doing metal polishing part time. So if you need metal polsihed let me know.

The event was hudge, but my favorite was seeing the old race cars especially the SR2 from 1956 and Mickey Thompson 63 Split with the "427 Mystery Motor" car. Went over to NCRS and saw the reunion of the 54s and got to see the 1954 Corvette Nomad, man that was a cool car.

It was HOT, dusty, and crowed. Very typical for Carlisle, however I was really surprized because Friday seemed just as crowded as Saturday. Even Thursday afternoon was crowed.

I went up Wednesday for a day trip, brought my seats to Al Knoch and got them reupostered. When they removed the old seat covers we found the original foam padding and it was DATE STAMPED....01-14-1963.....and according to the NCRS Birthday Book, I was corrected my car was producted 01-24-1963....I was on target. I saved the seat foam and the seats were complete 100% correct for 63. The 63 slides and mouting pedestal are different then the rest of the midyears. I really lucked out, I had all the correct pieces and all were in great shape. It was interesting watching them redo the seats. Now the two seats and armrest are restored.

As far as the car goes....finally paint this week. It still needed some more work and we needed to leat the final coat of primer set for a few dayst to cure.

Overall, Carlisle was very typical this year. less Chip Miller, but met his son Lance, seemed to have the Chip Charm, so I think its in good hands. Chip's 57 Cooper car sold at auction, I think it sould for the mid 100's/ Dont know who bought it/

Well, time to rest, then I got to pack again to go out on another trip..heading up north again.....till next time....

Make your reservations for Carlisle....Hotels are getting booked already. and people seem to be coming in for Friday and Saturday.

Cheers [:D]

It never ceases to amaze me the amount and types of things that are For Sale.

I hear ya...we saw this guy sitting on the ground sifting thru a buttload of bolts on a big tarp...looking for the "right ones". Kinda like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I mean, dude...order them from Mid-America or someplace, it'll save ya from a sunburn, heat-exhaustion, headache, and they deliver them to your door!

What was really cool was that they are starting a tradition where everyone revs their engines for 15 seconds at noon on Saturday in memory of Chip. Hearing that was a really awesome tribute...I'm certain Chip was smiling down on Carlisle that day. [:)]

I wonder what the neighbors thought of that one! [:))] I can't even begin to image what 5,000 cars all reving their engines would sound like. [B-)]

I had fun too! I was disappointed by the lack of C4 performance parts, so I came out of the fair with cash still in my wallet. Seeing some of the wild paintjobs, customizations, and things people did to their cars did give me plenty of ideas though. I'll definitely be going next year! Maybe someone will finally offer longtubes with a free install... :)

Chris and I went up Saturday. Left here at 4:00 to get there when it opened at 7:00 and make sure we could get parking on the grounds. (Note for next year -- no need to get there early -- there's plenty of parking.)

For about an hour of the drive up, the fog was so thick you could only see about 100-200 feet ahead of you. Slow, white-knuckle driving. Got there at 6:20 and we were first in line at Gate 1. The line started forming behind us quickly and by 7:00 it was as far as we could see down the road. Nice talking to the other early arrivers waiting for the gates to open.

Our first time there and it was interesting. Amazed by the number of old parts dealers with their lot filled with old, old parts.

Our big buy was a new blue clear targa top for Chris' 89. His old one had a foot-long crack in it. We got it from Melrose T-tops and glad we did. They fitted the top to the car. Out of the box, it didn't fit well at all. One of the ears on the side was hitting and the top would not go down completely. They unassembled part of the side, made an adjustment and adjusted the holes for the bolts. If I had ordered this my mail, I would have had to send it back. It was so nice to have them take care of all this on-site.

It was SO hot Saturday -- after walking, buying, and eating for six hours, we left at 1:00, missing the evening's events.

Uh, guys....this Carlisle thread is from 3 years ago...would appreciate it if follow up posts for 2007 Carlisle remained in the Carlisle 2007 thread. (http://www.nvcorvetteclub.com/mvnforum/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=2409)

On the note of Melrose T-tops, I had a new one installed there on LilRed this year. The C4 tops do take a bit of adjustment, so it's customary for Melrose to take care of all the fitment details.

Yes, there is always plenty of parking, our caravan has never had a problem finding a place to park their vettes. [:)]
