A few of us from Crossroads Online went out to Piper Motorsports this evening and had our cars corner weighed.

The 1986 weighed in at 3244 with a full tank of gas and no driver. The last time it weighed in at 3150 before the rollbar and the accusump.

The interesting part was the corner weights...

-LF- -RF-
816 824

-LR- -RR-
835 769

Balance 50.55% front and 49.45% rear, 50.89% left and 49.11% right.

Pretty evenly balanced except for the right rear. Take a look at your car when it is setting on flat level ground some time. My right rear is 3/16" higher on than the left rear.

Adding a driver really screwed with the weights. The overall weight increased by 163lbs.

-LF- -RF-
871 829

-LR- -RR-
903 804

Balance 49.90% front and 50.10% rear, 52.07% left and 47.93% right. It is still nicely balanced front to rear but side to side is a mess.

So, what's the next step? Throw a sandbag in the right rear? Or are there chassis adjustments you can make to overcome this during autocross?

A little of both maybe. Since the car is really a track car now I can remove weight here and there and try to move stuff around. I can move the battery from the front to the right rear and I can try to lower the right rear a little more with the rear spring bolts.

The other way to do it is to go to coilovers. The problem with coilovers is the $$$$.

The idea of tossing a sandbag in the right rear sounds pretty good actually. [:D] [:))] I wonder if anyone would notice. [:D]

I had a 100lbs in the race cars rear compartment. I'm sure you will need less. 163lbs.... you fly weight

Hey, what you talking about? I've been thinking about going on a diet. I've gained 15lbs in the last 10 years since I retired from the Army. [:p]

Damn civilian life! [;)] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]

For some reason I keep seeing the dance number in White Christmas where Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen are dancing behind the cardboard cut-outs comparing the virtues of military life compared to civilian life. [:))] [:))] [:))]
