Just got an email from Ralph.
Looks like we will be heading out ~ noon on Friday. We'll stop at Hill Top (about 8 miles before Breezewood). It's a truck stop with quick "in and out" access to the highway, a place to catch a quick lunch (it has a Subway and slices of Pizza) and is rarely crowded. Gas is a little cheaper too!
Hit the toll road and then in from there. The toll road will be a little more expensive if you are pulling a trailer. They like to get their Xtra for the axles on the trailer. [#-o]

Well, I hope I got reservations at the right place.
I called the Holiday Inn that is 1.6 miles away - they wanted $99 a night [:((]
Looked further down the page and tried Conley Inn (5 miles) - ahhh perfect $64 a night for Fri & Sat, $48 for Sun [:D]
Rooms have 2 double beds so Bill and I are set.

That sounds like the place. I can't remember if I asked for a military/government/BeaveRun discount or not but the $64 a night sounds right. Bill Velasco and I shared a room Friday and Saturday.

Bill is coming up from Woodbridge. James is coming from Centreville. I haven't heard anything out of Rick Poage or John Tribble. I imagine Dave Rankin will go straight up from his place.
About the only place I can think of would be the Wendy's next to Koon's.
I'm open to suggestions.

I probably won't get out of here until 5 PM on Friday, so I'll catch up to you at the track.
I'll look for stragglers as I go out 68 and then the turnpike.

Speaking of helmets (sorry to jump in on this thread), what's the smallest club loaner helmet you have? I don't think I can get around to getting one before the 9/11 oval date.

I'll have to look to be sure. I know we have a medium or two. If the club doesn't have a small, I have one that you can borrow.
I wouldn't bother getting one for awhile if I was you as long as one of the club helmets fit. A good one (SA versus M) costs a nice chunk of change if you don't get it on sale.
SA is an automotive helmet (tested to withstand multiple impacts and the lining is fire retardant).
M is a motorcycle helmet (tested to withstand a single impact and the lining is NOT fire retardant).

That's the problem, the club loaners don't really fit me very well. I really don't want a motorcycle helmet but a decent SA one. I plan on looking for a full-face one in black that is up to date NCCC standard-wise for all our events coming up next year. Was hoping to use a loaner for now until next year, but if they don't fit, they don't fit! *shrugs*

I've got a small that my oldest stepdaughter used. I don't normally bring it with me. I'll bring it out on the 11th and let you try it.
It's a black open face M like the other helmets but it hasn't been used much. Its more than enough for ODS if it fits right.

OK, here's what I've got. We're going to meet Friday, 3 September, at the Wendy's next to Koon's and depart Wendy's at 12:00 noon. If you have a Family Radio, I suggest bringing it. It helps to communicate along the way.
Here are the routes we're taking: The toll will be $8.00 (one way) for cars and $12 for us pulling trailers.
We'll take the beltway to 270 to 70 to the PA Turnpike (76) at Breezewood (Just before Breezewood, we'll stop at the truck stop at Hill Top). We'll follow the PA Turnpike to exit 13, Beaver Valley (148 miles) and take State Rt 18 north for about 8 miles then turn left onto Penndale Road and about 3 miles later we're there.

Latest news from BeaveRun!
The schedule has been posted for the weekend.
BeaveRun Schedule (http://www.racenasa.com/SCHEDULE_BEAVERUNSEPTEMBER.htm)
It looks like we are in for a bit of an interesting weekend. Group 3 will be running with Group 2 and and Group 4. Group 1 has their first two sessions by themselves each day but their third session they are on the track with Group 2.
I don't know how big the run groups will be but registration is still open for all groups.
Also, each session is scheduled to be 30 minutes. [:D]

Check your directions again, Ralph. I downloaded directions from the BeaveRun website. They show exit 2 as the closest to the track. It takes you out on 18, but within a mile or so of the track.
I can't attach the map, so you'll have to follow the link from an earlier thread.
You can get there either way. I know you want to drive the twisty roads, but probably not with a trailer in tow. [:)]

Actually, I think Exit #2 and Exit 13 are the same exit. It looks like the Exit numbers were changed at some time, or Exit #2 from the Ohio line is located at mile marker 13.
FROM THE PA TURNPIKE
Mile -Instruction For Leg
0.00 Depart I-76 at Exit 13 (onto Ramp) .3 mi
0.30 Merge on to State Route 18 North .9 mi
1.20 At traffic light continue on SR 18N 54 yds
1.20 At traffic light continue on SR 18N .9 mi
2.10 Continue on SR 18N .7 mi
2.80 Turn LEFT onto Penndale Road .8 mi

Actually there is quite a list of them. At first look they might be a little intimidating and if you try to conciously think about all of them you will probably become overwhelmed.
The #1 and most important is
listen to your instructor.
The #2 and next most important
communicate with your instructor.
He or she needs feedback that you understand what they are saying, 'yea', 'uh huh' doesn't mean 'I understand'.
Some of them are things that you normally do. Go through the list and identify them and file them away.

Long pants are a definite. Sometimes they don't require the long sleeve shirts but it is best to come prepared just in case.

Well its a raybestos brand hose. It will hold me until I can come up with the scratch for the braided lines. As far as I know they didn't have any problems putting it on, used a little shop over by work. Joe was booked. About 2 hours of labor all together.
Thanks for looking up the number, I 'm just gonna send them an email tomorrow before we leave that I'll use that as my car number.
I'll probably use painters tape this weekend and have someone make me some static cling numbers to use at other events.

The registration form asked for up to 3 different number choices for your car. If you don't remember what number you asked for or didn't enter one don't worry about it.
1/2" wide painters tape works fine as long as you don't have a light blue car. On the other hand, you can always bring about six blank 8.5"x11" sheets of printer paper. I have a black magic marker and some 2" wide painters tape and we can afix the paper to the sides of the cars.

Cool, sent them the email. I'll pick up a roll of painters tape.
Anyone going - feel free to use it.
OBTW - when I registered I indicated I didn't have a car number preferance, Bill probably did the same thing. When I read the email it said numbers had been provide so I shot Mansier an email with a few other questions. They had not assigned me any number, Bill may have the same problem.
Bill, figure out a few favorite numbers and just mail them off to Mansier. He'll get back to you with which one to use.
Is it noon Friday yet????????
