Where can I take my car for for Pre-Tech for Beaver Run that
would know what kind of things to look for?
I dont want to get all the way out there and get failed for
something simple. I also need to get Hi-temp Brake fluid
installed and order some braided lines.

I downloaded the tech sheet and checked everything on it to see what shape its in. Only thing I haven't figured out yet is "battery terminal covers"
Other than that if its in good shape you should be fine. Check the brake pad wear, if its 50% or less left on the pad replace them.
On the brake fluid maybe we can all get together and replace our fluid. I was able to get the crap old fluid out of the resevoirs, have more to put in when I finish bleeding them, just need some help to bleed them till the new fluid comes out.
Don't know if its a problem for your car but my Power Steering fluid was the color and consistency of chocolate pudding that hasn't set yet. So far I've flushed it with 3 quarts of power steering fluid. It now has the consistency of power steering fluid but still looks a little brown. I'm gonna flush another quart through it tonight. and then another in a few days, hopefully by the time we leave it will look like power steering fluid. Then I can flush and fill it with better fluid.

I need to check everything, but I dont have a place I can do any
work at, appartment complex throws a fit if you even open your
hood for more than a few minutes...grrr.

You can get the Tech sheet at http://www.nasaproracing.com/images/rules-forms/form_hpde_tech.pdf
NASA Virginia has the instructors tech their students' cars. I'm not sure what NASA Ohio-Indianna do. James pretty well covered everything else.
The battery terminal covers are any type of cover over the terminal that will not fall off and will protect the terminals from being shorted in case of a collision or the battery becoming dislodged. PepBoys, Advanced Auto, Autozone all sell rubber covers that slip over the end of the battery cables.

hmmmm, looking at the calendar we have saturday morning, got to be done by noon to clean up for the German Cruise. And all day Sunday.
Don't want to impose, but would either day work for you?
My HOA is almost as bad as Bill's apartment management co.
Also - does anyone know where you can get rid of old power steering and brake fluid? Or just give it to the oil recycling guys?

Well if Andrej is willing to offer up his place on Sunday, I am willing to show up with tools, jacks, jack stands, etc.
To bad we couldn't get into the bays at Koon's on Sunday though.
I wonder if there is anywhere else available so we don't descend on Andrej en masse.

Yeah, you can all show up on Saturday, or Sunday! I've got stuff going on both days in the afternoon (German restaurant on Sat and a concert on Sun) but both those days are good for me. Sunday is actually better as I don't have to leave until 3pm...

Im up for it, need directions and to know when everyone's going
to show up, I'll call today and get the braided brake lines sent out so i can put them on sunday & replace brake fluid.
Any suggestions for best place to get the lines and what fluid is
best?

How about we shoot for 10am? Find my address in the member area and use MapQuest. Call me if you have trouble...
Try OG Racing for the fluid, and probably the lines too. Ford makes a good high performance fluid that is probably not so hydrostatic as the real fancy stuff.
How about some good pads, like Performance Friction 01's? You can get these at OG too.

"NASA Virginia has the instructors tech their students' cars. I'm not sure what NASA Ohio-Indianna do. James pretty well covered everything else."
I went to the April event with the Ohio club. The instructors tech the cars there as well. Lawrence is a good guy and the event was well organized, but it wasn't as structured as the NASA-VA events.
You still want a good inspection before driving at high speed, irrespective of what your instructor might find/miss. Mike and Andrej should be able to do a better job than most.

I called OG yesterday on these, ouch! 500$ for a set of pads.

That is just a BIT much. [:((] Ralph and I just ordered a set of CarboTech PANTHER XP9s. Ralph met one of their reps at the NASA event we were all at. Fronts and rears would be about $300 list for the C5.
Supposedly they are just as good if not better than the PFCs.
The stock pads part #12530681 shouldn't be much more than $130-$140 front & rear. For where you are right now, I would probably go with the stock pads. (You are still driving your car as a daily driver right?)

Yeah, that's pretty steep. I think I paid about $300 F/R when I bought them last year for my C4. The Miata has Hawk Blue pads, which work great on it. You might want to check them out too.
Does your car need pads? If not, you might wait until they are worn out before replacing them... Newbies tend to be hard on brakes when starting out, but if you feel the brakes giving out and you slow down ie let everything cool off, you should be OK.

Yep its a daily driver till I decide what to get for a winter car.
I ordered a set of Bosch pads in case the stock ones
where overly worn when we look at them sunday.
I did get a set of speed bleeders though, and Im going to
OG racing tommorrow for some ATE Blue to comepletely
bleed out the system with.

Im assuming the stock pads are going to be fairly worn considering 24k miles and the autocrosses we've done.
Ill be bringing an extra set of 'street' pads sunday I ordered
from Mid America along with the speed bleeders. I have
Full set of Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake Lines comming
in tommorrow from WCC as well. OMW back from the fair
tommorrow im going to get some ATE Blue fluid.
Have any idea how much we'll need to completely bleed out
a C5 of old fluid? Any other fluids I should consider buying
to change out sunday? I had an oil change about 1400 miles
ago, and the computer tells me ive got 80% or so life left
in the Mobile One =).
Im psyched about a weekend of perma- [:D]

The only size of Super Blue ATE I've seen is the 1 liter can and one liter should be more than enough.
Check your P/S fluid to see if it is cloudy. It shouldn't be, but it doesn't hurt to look. If it is, you will probably want to replace it also.
From what I've seen on the Corvette Forum, most of the C5 drivers put an extra quart of oil in at the track so you might want to get a couple of quarts of Mobil 1. With 1400 miles on the last oil change, I wouldn't change it before going but I would afterwards.
That also gets rid of any 'extra' oil still left in the pan.

The only other replaceable I can think of is the fan belt(s). Air filter OK? Tires OK? All your brake lights work? Seat belt ok? All that and a full tank of gas should do you fine!

Aarrgghhhh!!!, I'm on quart #5 and the Power steering fluid is still yeechy. At least its the consistency of power steering fluid [:)]
If the PS fluid is a couple of years old, its cheap insurace to change it. I now have a task to complete on the other three cars in the fleet once the corvette is done [:((]

Yours really should have been flushed instead. The problem is that flushing is a two person job.
To flush the P/S remove the reservoir return line and firmly hold into a gallon jug. Start the car and have pour fresh fluid into the reservoir until fresh fluid comes out the return line.
Remember the return line is under pressure. The problem with just syphoning the reservoir is that that still leaves a good amount of dirty (nasty) fluid in the pump, lines and rack. Even worse if you have a P/S cooler.

It's really cool to see all the sh_t that comes out when you flush it this way! [:-&] I had all kinds metal shavings (not that you'd have the same stuff).

So that means we can do this Sunday? I'll bring a couple of quarts of Autozone fluid and a couple of quarts of red-line. That should do it.
See ya'll then.
Andre - in another post somewhere else you said Saturday. Please chime in and verify if we are doing this Saturday or Sunday morning.

Yes,
Just be sure to bring a large jug (gallon container), plastic milk container would probably work best. An empty anti-freeze or windshield washer fluid would work also.

I'd like to thank Adrej, Mike and Zoel for showing up to help today
James and I got our cars all fixed up for Beaver Run.
Only bad thing that happened today was I became a member
of the flying roof club today, minor scratches, but it was still
dumb. Dont forget to latch your roof.

Yes, 1000 thanks to Andre, Mike and Zoel from myself. Thanks to them I have what feels like a new power steering rack!
Sorry about your roof! Always double check the latches. On the C4 I always hit the bolts with the tool for a couple of days after I've had the panel out to make sure I really did tighten them.

I usually lower the visors when i get out and know Im going to
put the top back in. I pulled into the mobil station on oldbridge/123 with the top out, hoped out to pump gas and thier
roof was leaking water into my open roof.
I grabbed my top and droped it in, pissed off that my seat was
now soaked, fished fuling and took off, 20 feet out of the station
woosh, there goes the roof, at least it didnt hit the back of the car
or someone else.
the metal edges are scratched up and the plastic has a few scratches, could be alot worse i suppose.
