Joe,

I bought a fairly stripped 2002 S10, and have been buying stuff for it. I have a tilt column that I'd like to install, but have been hesitant to do it because of the airbag.

Would disconnecting the battery and removing the airbag fuse be enough to keep the bag from deploying while I swap out the column?

Andrej,

The airbag system is very simple system. You just don't want to apply power to a place that it should not be. A couple of rules to go by: 1) disconect the battery(neg. cable) 2) All the YELLOW cased wires under the dash and hood don't poke, prod,or apply power to. Or boom.. 3) when you have the airbag off the car point it away from you. Basically disconect the battery and the connectors at the base of the column. Remove and reinstall the same way. Don't worry and enjoy the tilt column.
