View Full Version : Spacers on rear spring for 1996

The previous owner jacked the rear of my '96 (FE1 A4) up by inserting additional spacers or moving the existing spacers from the top to the bottom.
I would like to get the ride height back down to where it belongs. With the correct tools (spring compressor, etc.) is this something that could be done at the next shop night or would it take to long?
Thanks

Mike,
This could be done at shopnight without a problem. You don't need a spring compressor in the traditional sense, you could do it safely with a couple of jack stands and a hydraulic jack.
Ride height is really controlled by the bolts at the end of the spring. You may just have them adjusted way high, or the guy used really short bolts.

Cool, having it jacked up in the back is REALLY beginning to get on my nerves. [@-)]

I thought that was the way it was done but the bolts seem to be the stock ones and there are a lot more spacers under the spring where it attaches to the rearend on the 96 then on the 86.

Mike this is really easy to remedy. Dre is correct, two jack stands, one jack and 20 minutes and your done. If you need help let me know I know a little bit about the C4's

Great! I've been through the GM maintainance manual and they show different configurations (numbers and thicknesses of spacers) for the different suspension RPOs but they didn't specify which was which.
If it is the bolts that works as well, but if the spacers are wrong I'ld like to get them right. We can talk this weekend about it.

Not a problem to do at shop night. I'll be there to give you a hand if needed.
