If you want to run in the Spooktacular this October, you must meet the NCCC requirements for High Speed Certification. You are guaranteed to have a great time at Spook. The competition and camaraderie are first rate, whether you are a beginner or have been doing this for a long time. If you are properly trained, you minimize stuffing your car in a tire wall. This has happened in the past, and will probably happen again, but by meeting the high speed requirements you help yourself stay on the track.

To qualify for a high speed license, you need to provide me with proof of completing 10 low speed autocrosses or a high speed driving school within the last 18 months. Upon receiving this information, I will forward Regional Compeitition Director Brian Gallagher your name and NCCC number and he will issue your license. There are usually no ifs, ands or buts about these requirements. You either meet them or you don't get the license. If you are not a NCCC Corvette club member, you still have to meet these requirments to run!

We have our own autocross series at Old Dominion Speedway (ODS), which if you attend all of them, can qualify you for your license. See the autocross section of this web site for those dates. You can attend NCCC autocrosses anywhere in the country, but check www.ernccc.org for the events in the East Region first. There's a triple this weekend in NE PA that several club members are going to. www.autocrossers.org has events throughout the season that you can sign up for. The BMW club and SCCA also have autocrosses. Their web pages are available at autocrossers.org. The Mercedes club (you have to search for these guys) used to have an autox series in Winchester, VA.

For high speed driving schools, check out the Summit Point FATT schedule at www.bsr-inc.com . These folks will let you bring your car to the track and will put an instructor in with you to teach you how to drive on a race course. www.nasaproracing.com has autoxes and HPDE (High Performance Driving Events) all over the country. www.carguys com and www. tracquest.com will also get you on a race track with a qualified instructor.

I'm sure others will chime in with similar URLS for autocrossing and driving schools.

It is probably a good idea to get as much track time as you can. Autoxing alone will get you a license, but a high speed blast on a race course with no cones is very different from a low speed blast around cones in a parking lot.

We want you to have a great time and be safe!

If there are any questions, please let me know.

Andrej,

Great post, lots of relevant information!

Would you kindly start the process for highspeed licenses for both Zoel & I. We've met the criteria, having participated in 17 autocrosses in 2003 and 4 so far this year (7 after this weekend). Still not sure if we'll be using the licenses at Spook because we still require a roll bar on our convertible. But, you never know ... can't hurt to be prepared!

Sure, you will get your licenses.

I have taken the rollbar out of my Vette, and probably won't put it back in this year. If I don't, you are welcome to "borrow" it.

Wanda....I can mail them to you or hold til I see Andrej at a governor meeting....
Andrej: Good info..... only part I could add is that Non NCCC people, tho required to meet our criteria will NOT get a license from me..... they only work for OUR NCCC members....
PS: you you took it OUT??????? DO you'all just glue or velcro them in? [:O]

Brian,

We won't be needing the licenses until Spook (if we decide to use them then).... So mailing them or giving them to Andrej makes no difference to us, which ever is easier.

As for the glue or velcro ... that's not my area .... I just get to wash the car and clean the windows! The rest is a 'blue' job ... well maybe even the washing a windows are blue too!

It's a bolt in. It takes about three hours for the conversion, and the only part that stays in are the weld plates in the back. Now I can run my soft top! I haven't had the car topless in two years!

Andrej,

How do I get my NASA HPDE Passport to you with my driving school data in it to qualify for the upcoming Spooktacular event?

Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks

Jack,

Can you scan it and then email it? If not, just bring it with you. I know you were there and how you drove! [:D]

Andrej,

Yes, I can get the book scanned. To what address should I email it and what's the procedure for "officially" signing up for the event.
Or, would that do it?

Thanks - Jack -

Andrej,

By the way, I was down at VIR this past weekend at the NASA HPDE event. I had Rick Poage as my instructor. It was definitely a great time.

The car was also quite a bit faster than last time. New aluminum heads, cam, 1.6 roller rockers, lifters, headers & a new late model computer. Lots of fun.

Jack,

Email it to urtoslo@adelphia.net. I'll get a waiver/license for you from the NCCC east region competition director. The application for Spook is on this website, just look under the Spook tab on the side bar. Mail it to me with your check and you're in.

Aluminum heads? New computer? Sounds like fun!

Hey Andrej,

I want to run this year if my car can ever get put back together. [:((] What do I have to show you for proof since I no longer have a valid high speed license? I am in a NCCC club down here in Florida but you gotta travel some to find an NCCC event.

I did 5 Chin events last year (4 at Sebring and 1 at Moroso).

The other thing I guess I am going to have to do is register while there is still room for me.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Get Chin to give you some sort of statement saying you participated in his events. It doesn't have to be a NCCC event, just 10 autoxes or a high speed driving school within the last 18 months. I would then say that you have to get your competition director to issue you a license.
