View Full Version : Childrens Hospital/TeddyBear Run?

I've spoken with Joe Daly a few times about this, and really like this idea. What we're thinking about is a charity drive of sorts, where we each pony up and buy a teddybear, and then caravan out to a childrens hospital of some sort and give the kids a bear, and if they would like, rides in the cars.

I think this would be a GREAT event, as well as meaning alot to some children who could use a day of smiling.

Any interested in trying to set somethig up? Anyone know of a hospital, or someone at a hospital, that might be able to help us on that end?

Please let me know.

Jeff

I wouldn't know about setting this up, but you can absolutly count me in on this one! This is a fantastic Idea! You may run in to some trouble with the hospital/insurances on the rides though. That end of the deal might take some working on. COOL idea though!! Just let me know when, and where!

Count me in too!

Showing up with the Corvettes, teddy bears and just having a static show should be just fine. Nice and simple and no insurance problems with driving anyone around.

I agree with everyone else's concerns regarding the rides/insurance thing. I really wouldn't want to mess with that.

I think it's a fantastic idea though and would love to participate. And there's no reason why we can't have the kids have their pictures taken sitting in the vettes...I'm sure they would love that. Maybe we can get our buddy George to help out with that. [;)] [:D] [B-)]

You got it!!!!!![:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] When our son was about 1-1/2 years old we spent 10 days at John's Hopkins with him. So I have a huge soft spot for kids, especaily sick kids.

I'm up for it.

It would be cool if we could get Tom Green and a couple of the other guys with full on race cars to bring them out also. Image the kids "being able to sit in a real race car".

I would be willing to trailer the '86 out but it isn't quite a 'real race car' yet. [:D]

Sounds like a great idea! Count us in. I agree that if the kids could sit in the car for their pictures it would certainly make their day. And who can't pass up a teddy bear!

[:((] I don't have a vette....

We had a guy in our club that had a green 1993 Vette and he hung out with the 1993 35th Anniversary cars from that year. The Anniversary cars were all a ruby red color, top, interior, exterior. They finally figured out his green car was just a unripened Anniversary addition!

Your Mustang can hang out with the Vettes any day for the kids![:D] [B-)] [:)]

Consider the council now working on this. I still would like to have someone volunteer to help with this.

Help???

I've contacted the children Hospital in Baltimore..and am waiting on a response. If someone knows someone there, that might be a bonus, as I have yet to hear back from them. Additionally,I was thinking it might be nice to head up there as a group and stop and have dinner...maybe somewhere in Columbia/Laurel or something...thoughts?

Sounds good to me. This may sound like a stupid question, but which hospital in Baltimore? I think there is about 15 there. The only one that I know of that has a specific childrens section is Johns Hopkins. Only because we had are son there for quite a while.

I think that is the one Jeff contacted...Johns Hopkins. Hope we hear something soon...

I'm not much of a seafood person either...but thats me. I still am hoping someone reading this who has contacts at Hopkins can make a call and get some 411.

Wish I was important enough to have contacts there, but I don't. Hopefully someone else does because I'm really looking forward to doing this.[:)]

Why are we going all the way to Baltimore for this teddy bear run? Don't we have Fairfax Hospital or DC General or Children's in DC?

I think because Johns Hopkins has that special childrens unit for critically/terminally ill kids? That was what I thought the reasoning was. *shrugs*

Quite honestly, if it were Children's in DC I wouldn't go...I really have no desire to take the 'vette into DC. Just my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth.

Hmm....next thought?

Jeff,
Thank you very much for your interest in the Johns Hopkins Children's
Center. I checked with Jerriann Wilson in our Child Life Department at
the hospital and unfortunately they will not be able to handle this
type
of event. We get teddy bears donated from other source and there is
only
one person working on Saturdays and it would take more people power to
do this. I am sorry we can not accommodate your group in this way.

Thanks,
Kristen Nock
