Joe,

I'm looking to install a tranny cooler in my 2004 Vette coupe.

Had the car at a local tuner to have this mod installed earlier this week. The mechanic said the installation hardware that came with the kit is not compatable with the 2004 Vette coupe. He said it would work on the 2002 (he's installed one on a 2002) but he said the fittings on the 02 and 04 have flange differences that makes the hardware incompatable.

Here's the link to what I bought:

Here's the questions:

1. Is the B&M 19K tranny cooler compatable with a 2004 Vette coupe?

2. If it is compatable, what type of hardware (new fittings, etc.) do I need to buy to install this cooler?

3. Is the 19K GVW enough cooler for autocross or do I need to go higher?

Thanks, Joe!!

The size of the cooler should be enough. The only thing that I can say is wait until someone comes out with the proper install for your car or modify your car. If you have a chance to come by the shop I'd like to see what you have maybe we can come up with a different solution.

Thanks, Joe! I finally got the 3.42 gearbox and the new 2800 RPM torque converter installed yesterday (FINALLY!!!).

Both the Yank and Precision Industries (Vigilante) website state that, at stall speeds up to 3000, you really don't need supplemental cooling but I like the idea of extra protection.

Will definitely take you up on the offer to stop by the shop. If you're there prior to the regular club membership meeting later this month, I'll stop by with the cooler and get your thoughts. Of course, I'll call first. [:D]

Thanks again, Joe.

I been watching a couple of the Vette sites, i.e., Corvette Forum, LS1Tech.com, Digital Corvettes, and others, for over a month now. It seems people are just beginning to realize that many of the aftermarket tranny coolers do not have compatible mouting hardware for the 03 and 04 Vettes.

There's a thread developing on Corvette Forum where a guy is doing the leg work for the rest of us and he should have the specifications for the mounting hardware soon.

It's hard to believe that, with 2 model years on the street, there isn't a mounting kit already available for installing a tranny cooler on an 03 or 04.

Will keep you all posted.

Things tend to happen slow not only for G.M. but the aftermarket too sometimes. I'll keep an eye out also.

Joe, here's the Corvette Forum thread that discusses this issue. If you check the final post, it appears this problem still hasn't been resolved.

Note that the writer also says that the same fitting(s) are to be carried over into the C6 models.

The adventure continues... [:(]
