...here's a post to get things going as well as get a laugh at my expense.

Yesterday I went outside briefly, came back inside, and then sat in front of my computer looking for movie theater times. I was happily eating some yogurt when all of a sudden I heard this very LOUD chirping/buzzing sound. Stunned the heck out of me. Yogurt goes flying. Run around the room trying to brush off cicada. More chirping and buzzing, I can't find where it is. Disrobe completely. Still can't find cicada. Go to bathroom. Find nasty cicada crawling up my back. The darn thing got under my shirt! Freak out and swat at cicada, but can't find where it lands. Found in office...pick up offensive bug with a tissue and flush down toilet. [:))] [>:)]

I know they don't bite/sting, but geez, stay off of me. Clumsy lil buggers. I kinda feel sorry for the poor things...turn 17, get some, then die.[:">]

Yes, they are. Thus my comment about them turning 17, "getting some" *clears throat*, then dying.[;)]

A recent article in the Washington Post on the Cicada issue had quoted a study where researchers were trying to determine exactly why the male of the species died so soon after mating. 2 months and a million dollars later, they came to the same conclusion that millions of husbands already knew. The Female still wouldnt be quiet....

(Running for cover....)

I was wondering when you'd be chiming in your 2 cents on this one...

Funny isn't it, that the MALE rather than the female makes the LOUD ANNOYING chirping/buzzing sound...it is supposed to attract the female cicadas to mate. Seeing as they are so far down the food chain they don't know any better than to follow the chirping and mate with them. Thank God we human women know better...[;)]

Too [:D] are the comments about Laurie's experience...but what do you expect from a group of guys having to imagine your ordeal. It sounds like you didn't even give the poor guy a chance...or maybe we only got your side of the story [:-?]

I had a cicada grab hold of my windshield wiper just before getting on 66 West from Lee-Hwy/Washington Blvd...sucker held on at 70mph until the Rt 50 exit...almost 12 miles...anybody seen this phenomona for a greater distance by chance [:-/]

I had one on the front antenna of the Trailblazer, the lil'boy held one, then broke loose, then splattered on the windshield. The lil'guy made a gallent attempt, but at around 80 on the beltway, the wind was to much.

I thought it was kool when one got splattered on a corvette windshield at 130.

Of course some things bigger than cicadas are know to frequent certain stretches of Summit Point also. Someone we all know and love encountered one of those larger types also.

Well things happen, but that was a freak. If you added up all the laps that we have put together out there, you would see how small the chances of something like that happening are.
