RxP additive. I have read in many places that this stuff works wonders. After failing my emissions test once (and finding that my cat was hollow ;)) im looking to make sure I dont fail again. 88 vette with about 100,000miles.

I replaced the cat but dont want to spend more $$ than i have to if you know what I mean.

My numbers were:
15mph:
limit/reading
HC 118/180
CO% .66/.86
NO 905/1762

25mph:
HC 114/162
CO% .70/.79
NO 824/1276

ill also make sure that car stays running from the time i pull in until the time its on the dyno this time!

Thanks

Strangely enough one of the major reasons for failing on older high milage cars is the amount of chemicals (sulfur, etc.) in the oil.

Change the oil and filter shortly before your emissions test (100 miles or so) and keep the number of short trips to a minimum. Supposedly short trips don't allow the oil to get sufficently hot to burn off impurities.

For what ever the reasons, it works for me.

Retest the vehicle first befoe adding anything!!! You have 1 free retest in the state of VA. My opinion on additives is that alot of them are "snake oil". I've never used RxP before so I can't tell you if it would work or not. I do recomend BG products I have seen them work. Looking at your emission numbers a new cat should make it pass

Just to let you guys know, I passed this time :)
Yesterday I put in the RxP stuff to see if something drastic would happen. Couldn't hurt right? [:p]
Here are the results:

limit/reading/result
15mph
HC ppm 118/28/Pass
CO% .66/.02/Pass
NO ppm 905/280/Pass

25mph
HC ppm 114/113/Pass
CO% .70/.28/Pass
NO ppm 824/613/Pass

I know it doesn't answer the question, because i had the cat replaced as well, but it's interesting to see what the before and after are. If it did help, I probably didnt burn through enough before the test because of the 25 mph results (probably began releasing the crap in the engine). If it didnt help, i at least felt for a little while like it was a safety net and if nothing else, boosted my confidence.

Thanks for your comments before!
