Since the weather is turning nicer, and folks are bringing thier cars out, it would be a good time to spend an evening or two actually tinkering with it....and how better than with some mechanics who can help?

Therefore, the GBM scheduled for 25 May will be a shop day, starting at 6:30 PM, and ending..well...whenever.

I'd like to get a good guesstimate of how many cars, and what kind of things people will be looking for, so I can forward this to Joe and give him a heads up, as well as see if they'll need more than 1 mechanic.

Damn, all the good shitz is happening while I'm in Kansas. [:((]

I wanted Joe to look at my '96 and see if he could find where a rattle from underneath is coming from. I hope this won't be the only one we have.

Are there any charges ($$$) associated with this? Just for planning purposes...

I'll be there after 9pm. If we're there long enough, I'll bring the whole fleet over.

I want to get mine up on a lift to see if I can get the nose straightened out and see what else is needed to keep it running smooth.

Count me in, I'm going to shoot for getting there at 6:30 PM.

Where exactly at the dealership do we need to show up at?

Count me in too. I'd like to get the car on the lift to check out a few things..

There is no charge for this at all. Bring your own oil though ;)

The only thing is a ticket will have to be written up for any car going on a lift, just for insurance purposes, but no charges.

Jeff, please count me in. Jerry (Newbie with a Red 78 L-82) I hope to learn a few things. thank you, Jerry

I'll be coming early with some easy questions/discussions of Joe. Alignment/plugs stuff like that. After all Blue Z06s are perfect!

I'll hopefully be in attendance Jeff, but probably don't need to have my ride lifted. I just don't get to see many Vettes from underneath, since we are SO-LOW to the ground...and that's a good thing! [>:D<]

Wow, where to begin? So many things to install: new gearbox, new torque converter, new tranny cooler, a Transgo shift kit, and a new PCM program (tuner still needed though). Just too many things for one shop night.

Guess I'll show up anyway. So many things still to learn about this car! [B-)]

Say, would this be the time to put on a Vararam forced air induction system? Do I need to bring my own tools? [:-/]

Jeff,

It might be at that. The great thing about this club isnt just that it's vettes, it's the people in it. And everyone here can contribute something, and I'd wager a few in the club have put one in, or would be willing to jump in and help you do it, probably for the fee of a few beers :)
Bring some tools just in case though..oh yeah..and that instruction thingie ;)

I'm putting my coupe into Woodbridge DynoTech for the gearbox, torque converter, and tranny cooler install on May 15th. The new Vararam VR-1B air system won't be in in time for me to install it before the car get dyno'ed.

I'll bring the air kit along with me to Shop Day if we need something minor to work on. Supposedly it only takes an hour or so to install, a bit longer if you do it yourself (particularly if you're not sure which parts to remove!). Beside, could really use all of you folks' expertise so I don't do something really stupid.

EDIT: Scratch that. Decided to have Woodbridge Dyno install it for me this coming week. Need to have that system on the car at the final dyno'ing so I can get a "total gains" picture from all the mods.

Change one million and one.

Woodbridge Dyno called and said they didn't have the 2004 version of LS1 Edit so I had to buy it myself. Hopefully, it'll be in later this week.

Unfortunately, that'll mean I won't have my car for either the Shine N Show or the Shop Night. [:((] [:((] [:((]

But when I get it back, it'll be even better than it is now. [:D] [:D] [:D]

TTT on this thread, Jeff. Shop Day is tomorrow.

Bringing my 04 coupe and the Vararam system I received recently. My tuning got delayed because I had to buy the LS1 Edit software package.

Hope to get an LS1 Edit stock baseline recorded tomorrow night and, if we have the time and talent, maybe install that Vararam system.

Question: Will Koons have some basic tools available for us or do we need to bring EVERYTHING we might need?

Looking forward to seeing you all again! [:D] [:D]

What is GBM? (got it.. General Business Meeting)

I just purchased a '93 LT1 last week, my first Corvette. I've discovered a small oil leak, and I'd like to find it.

If I can bring my ride, I'd sure appreciate any help!

Where is 'shop day' held? (Koons Chevy in Tysons?)

and can I come?

Thanks!

I would say that if you are interested in joining the club, then by all means come out.

There are lots of C4 folks with minor oil leaks (I should know, I have one around the Valve covers).

Since its a shop night you'll be able to meet lots of us.

The oil leak you have is the infamous LT1 oil leak. Usually this leak is located on the passengers side, rear of the intake manifold. There is a flex type hose and it leaks around that area. Joe will know about this leak as he has fixed many on Corvettes and Camaros...worse part of it is cleaning the engine and suspension parts that accumulates years of oil caked oil and dirt.

That is EXACTLY where it is! I'm really glad I found you guys.

Sorry I didn't make it... work and weather conspired to keep me in Leesburg.

Hope to meet you all at the next one.

I want to thank all the folks that came out to the shop day event. It gave several members a chance to work on thier cars..I think we had up to 5 lifts in operation at 1 time. I also think a few of learned a few things about thier cars (Ask Jeff how to install a VaraRam system, and if it takes 1 hour like the manual says...and how difficult that would be NOT using a lift).

I want to also thank the folks at Koons, Joe, the Corvette mechanic, Karen who stayed as a service writer (and who had no issue getting under a car and working...and knew her stuff to boot), and Kevin the shop manager who stayed late to make sure everyone had whatever tools where needed.

I'll be posting all thier names once again as well as thanking Koons in a letter and Alex in person.

So, what was everyone's opinion? And...should we do this again, and when?

Yes and tomorrow. My POS needs a lot of lovin'.

Seriously, having access to the Joe and the lifts is awesome!

I'd like to see this as a quarterly event. Just having the lift and someone with some broadbased expertise to answer questions makes this event worthwhile.

There was NO WAY I could have installed that intake system at home on a pair of ramps. Thanks for all those that helped from time to time, including Karen who was able to reach into places with her small hands that I couldn't get into.

BTW, if anybody is planning on installing that Vararam system, plan on 3 to 4 hours, maybe a little less with a friend who has done it before. It's a very frustrating installation process but, once you have it in, you'll be amazed at how much additional power you have at lower speeds. And you can actually hear and feel the air being sucked in through the intakes at idle.

A fantastic event! Just being able to get my car up to walk under it was great. It would be great if we could do this every 3 to 4 months.
The Koons staff was great!

How about if everyone share what they were able to accomplish. Here is my list:
Change fog lamp bulbs
Replace drivers exterior mirror
Replace passenger window switch
Change oil
Look at the damage form an "off road" excursion
Got several questions answered
Had a great time!

Mirrors what I said above. Every 3 to 4 months should be good. It'll allow all of my cuts, scrapes, and bruises to heal from the last one before doing the next one! [:D]
