Hi,

Name is Daniel and I've just recently (July 3rd) bought my first ever Corvette and V8 car. :)

Before the Corvette I owned a '98 V6 Camaro. I was 16, with 200hp it was fun until I starting hanging out with all the V8 guys :P Then I wanted to go fast on a budget, so I bought a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. It spent half the time I owned it broke down, but was fun and quick when it ran. Finally I settled on a 1988 Mazda RX7 for college until a friend totaled it. I had wanted to drop a LS1 into the car, but ah well.

I've been using the metro as transportation until recently when I drove up to PA and purchased a beautiful '98 TR 6spd.

It has a few issues, such as what I think are blown shocks; the ride is ridiculously harsh. Anyone have an idea how much labor costs to replace shocks on these cars?

I look forward to getting out and about with the car, meeting some fellow corvette people and learning as much as I can about it.

Thanks,

Daniel

Congrats on the new car, it's a nice looking car!

You can call shops and ask what it would cost to replace 4 shocks. With basic hand tools, a jack and a couple of jack stands, you can do this replacement yourself for a fraction of what a shop would charge you....

If you need help, let us know.

Hi Daniel,

:welcome: Nice vette you have there. How many miles are on it? Any mods on it when you bought it? Does it have Z51 or base suspension?

Congrats and welcome to our online home. Hope to see you at some club events soon. :)

I wouldn't mind learning how to do this, but I have no room. I live in a condo and the car sits in an underground garage. No big jobs allowed down there. :)

The only mod is a strait pipe from the cat back, of which I'm not a huge fan of right now. It's rattling against something, which you can hear at about 2k RPM's in first gear if you're near something to reflect the sound back at you. I have the stock exhaust, but I love the way these cars sound, I'm not sure if I can see myself putting it back on. The only reason I might end up doing this is to pass emissions, as I believe you must have a muffler up here in Virginia? (I miss Florida...)

55k miles. Will soon be 56k :) It has the base suspension I believe - which is probably fine for me, as I don't really intend to do any auto-xing with it. At most I might take it to the quartermile track to see how healthy the engine is.
