The Skyline Drive Cruise sounds great! Will there be a group meeting in Sterling or Leesburg area I can join?

OK, can someone PLEASE step up and lead this? I have not made this run before.

All we need to do is get a time and place to meet, then meet the other vettes. Volunteers? (Preferably someone who has made this run before)

Thanks.....

I will be the RAMROD for this Event. SO let's start off immediately.

We will meet with the rest of the people in Sterling Virginia, Sterling BLVD, at the McDonald's Parking Lot. TIME will be 7:30 AM, and plan to leave by 8:00 AM.

From Sterling we will go down 28 south .to Route 66 WEST. We will follow through all the way to the Chevrolet Dealership in FRONT ROYAL, where we will meet up with the entire cruise. At this point we will be directed.

As far as the lunch go to http://home.att.net/~jstrathearn/skyline_cruise/skyline_main.htm and plan your own lunch. HOWEVER..I have been going to this cruise since the first one back in 1997 and my experience is bring your OWN picinic lunch. Meg and I usually set up a blanket, with wine and cheese....and dont have to each that crummy junk food (fried dried chicken, mushy pasta etc.) This gives us time to take photos, chat, and look at all the other cars...

SO if you plan to attend POST here, so I can gather you name and know to expect you at the cruise.

OK any questions?

Go to http://home.att.net/~jstrathearn/skyline_cruise/skyline_main.htm

I will post here for updates and changes...so lets sign up here is you chance.....

I went ahead and posted this to the events list on the website home page. Collin is listed as the Event Coordinator (aka RAMROD).

Wasn't so hard, eh?

With all due respect...its not hard if somebody steps up to the plate. The problem is its the same people over and over. Frankly, People make a club work, not a person or just a few.

Now lets see how many from the club attend....

So for the record...

Collin, I am attending and will be at the Sterling parking lot. [:D]

Of course it isn't hard. I would have been more than happy to host it...if I had EVER made that run before! It does not make sense to have someone totally new to the club (and to the state of Virginia for that matter) to host something unfamiliar.

And I do agree that people make a club, not just one person. I think there are people in this club trying to contribute, rather than just one member. I do, however, wish more people would respond to my call for volunteers; like I said, I've made these requests both in the newsletter and on the forum. After that, it's outta my hands and I did what I could.

BTW...Laurie and spouse will most likely be attending, see you at McDonald's.

Talked to John organizing the cruise. Over 100 cars are expected this cruise, making it the largest one yet. In addition it will be covered by CORVETTE FEVER magazine...and one other bit of news, earlier I recommended to take a picnic lunch, forget it. We are stopping in a beautiful resturant in Luray, been there before and its a nice place for lunch. The Cruise will NOT go across skyline drive in the morning, if will be on lower roads in the foothills to Luray, the after lunch cruise will take you to Big Medows.

Also they will be collecting a donation for Chip Miller's charity...

SOOOOOO.......if appears its going to be a real nice cruise, now only the Gods of Weather smile down upon us.....

We still plan to meet at McDonald's and Cruise up to Jack Evans Chevrolet...[:D]

Collin,

Are non-club members able to attend? I'm not a member of the NVCC, but I'm thinking of going on this cruise which would be my first time.

Cool! Now I'm trying to think where is the McDonalds across from the Sterling Middle School? I live off Reston Parkway near Rt. 7. Where would it be in relation to Food Lion on Rt. 7 in Sterling (or Sterling Chevrolet)?

For those that couldn't make it, this cruise was AWESOME!! We had about 15 cars meet at the Mickey D's in Sterling and cruise out to Front Royal together.

Jim Strathearn did yet another exceptional job organizing this cruise, getting sponsorship, getting the gift bag/cruise info together, and all the things that make a cruise like this possible.

As you can tell from any of the pics (check Corvette Forum's Southeast Events section for these), the weather was perfect. Almost clear skies, lots of sun (yep, I'm burned big time!), gentle breeze, and great temp (68 degrees in Front Royal, 64 degrees at the Skyland Overlook on Skyline Drive).

Over 100 Vettes total and most parked on the lawn in front of the lunch stop hotel/restaurant.

Check out the pics when you can! [:D] [:D] [:D]
