The Teen Driving School will be held on Saturday, November 1st, 2008 at Battlefield High School. Registration is now open. See attached flyer/registration form for complete details.
Sheikh has asked me to post a video he made of last year's school. You can watch it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1P-5y9lsSk).
Lots of help will be needed from club members with this event, so please save the date! Contact George Kerns at whiskeytahoe@comcast.net to sign up to help ASAP. There will be a workers meeting at Koons Chevrolet on October 25th @ 11:30 AM.
Stay tuned, folks...

Update from George:
George has informed me that registration is going to be delayed about a week because of the school system. The people he has been working with on everything are off on vacation this week. He wants to make sure that we are set on everything and doesn't want to jump the gun.
I will be posting all the information as soon as I get everything from George...most likely early next week.

I will pass this great video to the RCD committee. I have discussed this at numerous meetings in ST LOUIS. Maybe this will drive the point across how important this program is. Thanks Sheikh.

Below is an email George Kerns sent out to registrants and club members:
To all,
If you are receiving this email you are confirmed into the "Sir Issac Newton's Totally Awesome Driving School" this coming Saturday at Battlefield High School. Attached below are very specific instructions for the day of the event. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read them carefully!!! I cannot stress this enough. There is very important information regarding Saturday's event.
Hello to All,
This letter is going out to let everyone that receives this know that you are enrolled in the Northern Virginia Corvette Club’s “Sir Isaac Newton’s Totally Awesome Driving School” this Saturday at Battlefield High School in Haymarket, VA. There are some items that I want all of you to be aware of and instructions for the morning of the event.
This school is provided free of charge for all participants and their parents, however at the end of the day we will be collecting a quarter per cone knocked over to donate to a charity that the students will vote on. This is a rain or shine event. That means if it is raining please still show up! Rain makes everyone worse drivers including adults. Parents will be riding in the back seat of the vehicle during the event.
There are a few things to remember for this event. ALL instructors and volunteers are just that, volunteers. These ladies and gentlemen have all volunteered their time for a cause that they all strongly believe in - the safety of our youth while driving on the streets these days! As many of you know last week was National Teen Driving Safety Week. Four teens in our area alone were killed while driving last week alone! This is totally unacceptable to all of us!
VERY IMPORTANT! Registration for this event starts at 6:30 AM!!! Please be on time. Class starts at 8 am and you need to register and have your vehicle teched beforehand. Those that show up late will not be able to participate in the event. Both students and parents must make the morning classroom session. This event will run until about 5 PM where we will hand out certificates and a short debrief.
Here is a list of things to remember before hand so please read them carefully!
1) NO Trucks, SUVs, or Vans of any type!!! They are rollover hazards and our insurance WILL NOT allow them! Please don’t show up in one because we will be forced to decline your entry into the event.
2) The day before the event, check the tire pressures on the vehicle. Please make sure they have proper inflation.
3) Clean everything out of the vehicle, including the items in the trunk. Spare tire and related equipment are ok. There is really no place to store the items so please leave them at home.
4) Make sure your vehicle has a FULL tank of gas! This is an all day hands on event and someone always runs out of gas.
5) When you arrive please pay attention to all the volunteers. They will send you to the proper areas. The very first thing you will do is register and then proceed to have your car teched. When you are done with that you will be instructed where to park your car. Don’t worry, we will have a small army of volunteers to help you out.
6) Coffee and doughnuts will be provided for everyone throughout the morning and day along with lunch and snacks provided by several of our sponsors. So don't worry about food or drinks, they are on us!
7) Many of our sponsors will be at the event first hand helping out. Without their support and help these events could not be provided for free to everyone. Please give a few minutes of your time throughout the day to thank them and show them your support for this great cause.
8) We are going to test your minds and abilities all day long with real life situations! Your parents will not only learn too, but will gain trust and confidence in your abilities to drive day to day and in emergency situations. You will be tired at the end of the day!
9) At the end of the day we will ask you and your parents to fill out an evaluation of the class. Please take a little time to fill that out. It helps us to continue to improve this program each time we do it.
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you Saturday!
George Kerns,
Teen Driving School Director
