I recently heard of a few interesting things...in Maryland.

Supposedly police have been setting up on various areas and shooting you...not just for radar, but for seatbelt usage. Supposedly there's a new device that shoots an IR image, and the belt strap across the chest can be clearly identified.

Also, I've heard there are speed cameras in a few signs along 95 in Md, and although no tickets are given, pics are mailed to the house as a "warning". Of course, I heard this AFTER I was teaching an A4 what speed meant...[:(]

On the local news they mentioned that the Maryland police will disguise themselves as construction crews. That may be a radar gun on the surveyor's tripod. They also shoot the laser/radar from bucket trucks near "construction" sites.

I was talking to someone else about this...and she said a recent expose had been done, since these cameras are also supposed to be all over 495 and 95 in Maryland...evidently, there isnt enough money to buy the cameras and film and etc, so these are mostly blank....

dunno...

Cameras that are use for law enforcement, regardless if a ticket or warning is issued are requried to provide the motorist with fair warning they are being photographed. If the camera has no sign stating this is an observed zone and you photo is being recorded will get tossed out in court.

Cameras by law enforcement for traffic violations fall under different set of laws then cameras used for surviellence of federal or state felonies.

So, remember this. If you should be photographed and there are no signs or warning present, bring it to court and it will get tossed out.....

Now regarding the road crew with radar/lasar. That is legal and was first used in Florida. Proved to be very successful, that it spread to Texas then to several other states. Is Maryland using this technique, I have not heard through some of my Federal contacts, but I do know that Maryland uses the pick-up camper trick. On the side of the road they will set up a radar/lasar gun in the back of a pickup truck or van (unmarked), then about 1/4 mile down the road have several cars and troopers that will direct you over the side of the road to issue a ticket. Maryland has been famous for this.

Pennsylvania is famous for having a trooper on an overpass shooting you as you under the bridge taking the measurement as you drive away, with chaser cars down the road.

Obviously Virgnia in not as resourseful and use the parked of the side of the road behide something to obsruct the drivers view with radar. Local police like Fairfax and Arlington using more Lasar, with Staties still use Radar Ku or X band.

Just thought you would like to know...[B-)]
