Okay, it's not about a corvette which is why I didn't post this in the Corvette Technical section. It's about the new supercharged track miata that Cindy and I just bought. Here goes:

When we bought it I knew the wheel bearings were going bad. So, I ordered two brand new hub and bearing sets (you can only buy them as one unit because apparently you can't press the bearings out). I greased them up, threw them on and torqued everything back to Mazda specs.

I've drive the car 150 miles and the bearings are bad again. The suspension is set up for the track but I know for sure that even full Spec Miatas get more than 150 miles out of a set of bearings.

Before I spend the $200 on another set I want to fix the reason they are going bad so quickly. Any ideas on what is causing them to go bad so fast? Any help would appreciated guys. THANKS!!

Even if the rest of the front end was bad (ball joints, tie rods, etc) I can't imagine them going bad in 150 miles.

Andrej might have an idea but in the mean time, I'll ask some of the Miata guys I know and see what they say.

There is a section called "Other Transportation" that would be a better fit for this topic.

"Off Topic" is for non-automobile, non-Corvette "chatter" only, such as YouTube videos, jokes, and other fun nonsense.

Moved to the appropriate forum for discussion.

Sheikh,

Sounds like you got a bad batch of bearings. Can you take them back and get your money? They should not go bad within 150 miles.

I used to get mine from MazdaSpeed, and you can get them from a dealer. The stock Mazda hubs should last 2 years or so of race abuse, which is what mine did when I got them from MazdaSpeed.
Some things you just have to get from the manufacturor.

However, go to:

and check out the blue printed hubs. I put them on 4 years ago and have not had a failure. They're worth it.

Hey, I just thought of something else. When checking the bearing by pulling on the wheel at the 12/6 'oclock position, have someone look to make sure it is the bearing and not the upper or lower balljoint. I spent a lot of time figuring that out by myself one day.... [:))]

My old roommate had this same exact issue and it just ended up being a bad bearing. So it does happen
