The registration for the December 1st "Sir Issac Newton's Totally Awesome Driving School" is officially open.

Just so that everyone knows, I will be reserving 20 slots for this school for the students of the host school "Battlefield High school" so that mean there will be 52 slots open and a total of 72 slots. So get those teens registered early because I expect this school to fill up in 2-3 weeks.

George,

Last year, you had an application form for people to fill out and send to you. Is there a form this year, or do you just want names for now? Do you want the names posted here or sent to an e-mail address? Thanks!

Jim,

We are about half full already! It's amazing! [;)]

We could also use some more sponsorship $$$$ to go torwards the goodie bags for the kids. Everthing is really shaping up nicely for this event! If you want, give me a call this evening and we can talk.

Sponsors so far:

Northern Virginia Corvette Club
Howard Snook of Long & Foster
Long & Foster Insurance
Koons Chevrolet
Curry's Automotive Services
Securitas Security Services
Tire Van
Roadblock Protective Systems Inc.
The Sterling Ruritan Club

We need to pick up a lot of new equipment like administrative supplies, cones, drinks, snacks and some other things to keep making this the best Teen driving school around.

Thanks
George

Jim,

Tell them that everyone that I've gotten so far are in. I have not had time to sit down long enough to write the letter and build the Data base of students as of yet. We had 47 at last count yesterday. I've been working 16 hour days and I'm dying over here. I'll get caught up, I promise! I always do :-) [;)]

George, can I make a suggestion? This year, on the letter they get before the event, can we make sure to very clearly state that they should empty their car of EVERYTHING before they come to the event? I remember the one in Spring was kind of a mess because they had stuff all over the curb that was inside their trunks and it held the tech line up as well.

Also, we are going to have to go a different route if we want to do the "cell phone" driving exercise. I was hoping to my local Nextel contact to lend us a dozen cell phones or so for the day but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. We may have to use hand held radios instead.

I know it's a handful to plan these things so let me know if I can help. See ya!

Good point on the 'EVERYTHING to be removed', and this should be stressed at tech as well. I know that as an instructor at the last events I had to tell the students to remove items from the backseat of their car, this was usually when we were already in line to start their portion of the exercise.

Wouldn't 99.9% of the students already have their own cell phone. Can't they be used for the exercise?

I probably shouldn't be putting in my 2 cents, since I'm not even in the area anymore. Sure wish I was going to be able to help at the school again though!

George ...
Hope you have room for one more ...
Friend of mine has a daughter getting her learners permit this month (Nov) and is way short of confidence in her ability to handle a car safely on the road ... I am sending him a link to the registration page and he should submit this weekend.
Her name is Alyssa S. Her father's name is Rodney S. He will of course be with her. (Thurmont, MD)
Thanks all ... sorry I can't make this one either due to conflicting commitments but I find a way to support you!
Thanks,
DennyM
