I'm looking for a larger than stock front swaybar for a 1984 C4 Vette. The 1985 and up front sway bars are different and will not fit an '84. Has anyone run into a supplier or manufacturer of Vette sway bars that mfg's one for the '84?

Thanks - Any info would be of help. - Jack -

Jack,
Three places of that I can think of... Doug Rippie Motorsports,
Vette Brakes and Products and Superior Chevrolet.

Doug Rippie Motorsports (http://www.dougrippie.com/)
Vette Brakes & Products (http://www.vbandp.com/)
Superior Chevrolet (http://www.chevyusa.com/en_US/)

From the looks of things the 84 came with either FE1 base suspension (24mm solid front & 20mm solid rear or Z51 sport suspension (25mm solid front & 23mm solid rear). VB&P shows a 26mm rear bar for the 84 on their website. You might give them a call about the front. DRM shows sway bar upgrades for 84-96 but don't specify on their website.

Superior Chevy in Kansas gives wholesale discounts to people who are members of the CorvetteForum (http://www.corvetteforum.com/). They are really great guys to work with and can normally get any parts you need. Worth giving them a call on their 800 number and ask for Chris May in parts.

Hope that helps and welcome to our forum.

What are you trying to accomplish? Have you done anything else to the suspension?

Hey Governor!

I've made a few changes to the suspension on my '84. They are"

1) Lowered chassis about 2 inches
2) Relocated rear camber arms with new brackets to reduce
camber change in corners and keep more tire patch on the
road
3) Altered the trailing arm brackets to take some of the anti-
squat out of the car and improve the weight transfer to the
rear. So the rear's not so happy in the corners!
4) Put a set of Koni adjustable shocks on the four corners.
5) Adjusted castor and camber away from street specs and
between auto-cross and road race settings.

All of this greatly improved the cars handling over stock. Which in my opinion was one of the worst cars I ever drove on street tires.
Now I love it and it handles great, whether it's on street tires or track tires.

I had ordered a 26mm rear sway bar and a 30mm front sway bar from Doug Rippie. But, when I got the bars, the front didn't fit the '84. Different bends then the '85 and up cars. The rear was ok, but I didn't want to change the rear bar without matching the front to it. So I sent them back. Rippie's guys at the shop said they didn't realize the '84 was different. That's the reason for my question.

By the looks at the pictures from VIR, I don't really have much if any body roll, so it's probably just fine where it is. I probably should just replace the bushings and be done with it. And then move onto the engine/transmission.

Try Contemporary Corvette, that junkyard in Bristol, PA. They may just have an original Z51 sway bar for the 84. You can also try Corvette forum.

BTW, you do have a very good handling car.
