Had a great time ounce again at spook even with the tire wall incident and broken half shaft. [:(] Thank you to all workers and CORNERS workers for keeping us safe and working all weekend long.
Great job to Brian G. on his fast lap times as well as everyone else. I better bring some more power next year. [:))] The people of NVCC and NCCC are like another family and always so nice.
P.S. I also had a blast giving some DIRT track rides for the corner workers and friends and the end of the day. [>:)]

Aaron, that was quite the little show you put on out there yesterday! I know the corner workers thank you for making it exciting! I also wanted to thank you for the goodies that you/Kumho donated for this event.
To Andrej and all the workers involved. That was one awesome event! [;)] You people are the reason this club can put on such awesome events! Without you it couldn't be done! (We need a thumbs up smiley!) [B-)]
Congrats to Brian G. for getting FTD! As everyone can see, there was some real talent out there this weekend! And no major accidents!
I hope that everyone that traveled to get to this event got home nice and safe!
Mark your calendars because we got the dates for spook next year! Sep. 29th & 30th!!! We also have 1 other confirmed date with two others in the works! More to come in the near future!!!
In closing I would like to say thank you to Wanda & Zoel! As most of you know this is probably going to be their last Spook with the club and the two of them over the last several years have done a huge amount of work at these events! Zoel- the pits ran perfect with you out there buddy and we're going to miss you. Wanda- Scoring can get to be a real head ache with everyone standing around yaking while you're trying to listen. The timing was perfect!

Georgana and I had a great time and look forward to next year. It was good to meet everybody and put faces to the names.
Aaron...............WOW!!
We love to watch you drive that thing through the corners. Brings back memories of the days I used to sling my 89 around the corners like that. I doubt I'll ever get that comfortable in this beast.
Thanks a bunch NVCC!! You have a good group of people there! Mother Nature couldn't even dampen their spirits.

New brake rotors: $200
New brake pads: $130
New brake fluid: $10
Fresh oil: $25
2 nights @ roach motel: $150
Entry fees: $250
Total spent: $765
Skating around Jefferson Circuit in the rain on very well worn Victoracers: priceless
Thanks to Andrej and Jim for planning this huge event, and to all the volunteers who were there working hard, keeping the times straight and the track safe. Mad props to those corner workers out there in the miserable cold/wet weather, I admit I'd have gone back to the motel and kept warm under the covers, but you all toughed it out without complaint and for that I thank you.
Special thanks to you, Aaron, for remembering the IOU from Spook 2004 on the fun run in your car. Man, that was awesome. I can't remember any time in that car where we had traction. [:))] What a blast, I'll never forget it! Thanks for the Kumho hat too, it is now my official hat to wear on rainy track days. [;)]
A buddy who came out to watch us run came too late, had trouble at the gate getting in, but had a chance to take a fun run with me. We're still friends! He had never been in a car on a track before but he said he had a blast. I think turn 7 scared him. [:))] I should have had some toilet paper ready in the car...
I would have gladly given out a couple more fun runs before I packed up but nobody wanted to ride in a slow car [:))] Oh well, maybe next year when the '89 is finished.
Thanks again, all! [=D>]

Thanks to all the drivers from the starter, paying attention to the changes in signals while we worked out how to stage the cars and the internvals on the first day with the rain. [#-o] There is a lot going on when running the cars clockwise on the track. Felt like I was back in my air traffic control days again [:D]
Day two was easier with the great calling by corner 4 [:D], I didn't get a chance to say thanks afterwards [=D>]
It was fun to watch the improving times on everyone laps, those first couple must have been good learning laps with the slick conditions.
Excellent time was had, looking forward to next year. [\:D/]

We (the NCCC governors) have a meeting this coming saturday... and we are picking the 2007 dates then. If we think we can pull this off--- it would be the time to look at the calendar and see whats open.
I know it means work... but work like THIS is a good thing. [=D>]
We'd have to chose a date--- then solicit clubs who dont use their sanctions--- We can always cancel the date if it flops.

I'm in for a spring run. After drifting around turn 4, I can't imagine I ever drove my car in just a straight line.
That little car held up pretty good. If the only thing that went wrong was my pair of shoes (which have been recovered!) not too shabby for me.

I think we should post a spot somewhere on this website to keep track of the fastest time for each class and who the driver was...
Great idea!
As you know, fast is not a easy thing to pin down. If we run the same direction both days, the fastest time tends to be on Sunday afternoon. There are several fast times each weekend that we run in both direcitions, one each day. Then there are fast times for the men and women and fast time for each class. The men tend to be faster, but when we get a really fast woman she is may not be very far behind the fast guy.
I've got a Spook shirt from a couple of years ago that listed a 49+ second lap. The fastest time this year was 51.204 in the counter-clockwise direction, by Brian Gallagher. The results are not kept officially, but I do have 2 previous years of electronic results. I's sure Dick Hammaker could come up with all the previous years results...
So, if I am going to start keeping FTDs somewhere, I'll just post the fastest time all weekend (regardless of which direction it was) and list it by class and driver and the year of the event.
PS Official Spook 2006 results will be completed next week!

Great idea!
This IS a great idea.... for a number of reasons--- and I cant believe I didnt think of it.
Autocrossing is a chance type thing--- speaking of parking lots.. The course ALWAYS changes and you have no idea if you got any better. The only East Region Parking Lot event that is consistant is the one my club hosts up here in PA. I went out and masonary nailed EVERY cone and it is EXACTLY the same very year. Everyone loves the same course..I have records of everyone who came here from 1998. And I post them at the event.
SO, you put headers on and run again- and go faster-- YES IT was a good mod. You change shocks and you go SLOWER--- Hmmm Mabye a not so good mod, etc.
SO, presuming we set up the timers in the exact spot every year--- this is a great "tracking" of your experience and mods..
Shouldnt be a really big deal to do. Either by class or just sort them top to bottom. I may have some older SPOOK results on Disc somewhere too.

10-22-2006, 02:18 PM
Great idea to post times high speed or low speed, track or parking lot.
As far as low speed (parking lot) a chance type thing I don't agree, some people are good at low speed some are good at high speed. Slow speed brings the competitor's times closer, a group IS can beat a group III or RP car based on driver skill and how tight the course is. High speed events with group III or RP cars come out on top due to the number of mods and driver skill, speed and how you control that speed (4 wheel drifting like Raceboy [=D>] [=D>] [=D>] ). As far as the same course every time I find that boring, a different course puts all the drivers on the same playing field, not giving the home towner the upper hand. You have the same amount of chances to ACE the course, as I call it, and if you beat me great, I,ll see you at the next event and will do it all over again. How I tell if a mod helps me or not, I look at my time that day and my competitors time that day and so on and so on and if I closed the time gap, then the mod was good if I lose time then the mod didn't help.
P.S. Spook was a blast coming for a cone chaser [:D] [:D]
z06racing
10-22-2006, 06:01 PM
eh: Times from a lot are not relevant if the lot course wasnt the same. You may run a 55 sec run at one club and a 37 sec run at another. Were you faster on the latter event? You will not know. What if all the other cars you run against are not there that day- what is the gauge?
When I said it was a chance thing- I meant there was a chance you MAY do better, you MAY not... and you will really not know if you got better or the car did--- or even the other guy got better.
Fixed lots are the only way to tell.... or a fixed track, ie: Jefferson.
Why dont they run drag races on strait tracks that are say, 2000' or 3000' or even 1320'?? Whats the difference if you are running very well and beat a car or two? If you lost, you come back and run tomorrow. Did you REALLY get better or faster? Wont know unless everyone runs that old 1320' track----every time..
Just my $0.02 [8-}]

Track (Lap) records are kool but they are just a gauge (like a dyno).
There are many contributing factors to a track record. Not the least of which (weather) isn't mentioned most of the time. Cool temperatures and direct sunshine on the track contribute more than any minor adjustment in alignment, suspension or tuning.
A 400rwhp car can pickup or lose between 10-20 rwhp on the same dyno depending on the temps, humidity and air density when the runs are made.
As seen at this year's Spook track temps play an even more important role where direct sunlight on the track made as much as 2 seconds difference in times on a 5x.xx lap while the ambient air temps were relatively consistent.
I think posting event times for historical purposes is kool. It would be even kooler if the time of day and some relative weather conditions were also posted.

Youre right Mike, I figure I have close to 1000 miles at the 3 different road courses at POCONO this year; plus the NVCC events down there. Didnt do anything to the car but change oil. And of course oil cooler when I smashed it... [:((]

Thanks I had a great time. This was the third time there, the first on a set of sticky tires, and each time it is a blast. My wife,Denise, had to work that weekend and was sad that she had to miss all of the fun.I think that mostly she missed beating my times there [:))] We will see you all there next fall.
