How old were you when you saw your first Corvette? When did you know it was the car for you? How old were you when you got your first one?
It hit me when I was reallllllllllllllly young, a neighbor on our street had a red one with yellow flames painted on it. It even had a name; Panama Jack. I thought it was the coolest car on the block! I could hear it coming a mile away, and would always run outside to take a look...[B-)]
Dad also had a '67 and had the whole thing almost fully restored before selling it several years ago. Kind of bummed about that as he sold it for far less than what it is worth now. It was up for sale at a local corvette dealership where the price was over 4X what he sold it for. Doh![#-o] He now has a beautiful '87 though that he can just enjoy and drive without having to do any restoration work, which is good because his energy level isn't what it used to be.
So tell me YOUR story!

Didn't get the bug until I was 16. I was working at a gas station with young Air Force guy (19). He had a 327 cu. in. 375 hp Fuelie. He was always tinkering on it after work.
One night I stayed late to help him work on it, changing plugs, oil change, etc. Afterwards he took me for a ride in it. I thought it was an awesome car when he opened up on the highway. It wasn't until we hit a set of curves and rolling hills that I knew I had to have one. [:D]
The summer I graduated from high school, a guy brought a '69 427 4 spd in to be worked on. His girlfriend had poured STP into the brake fluid reservoir. It took us two weeks of alcohol flushes to get it cleaned out. I got to test drive that one.
Unfortuanately, a career in the Army and other things kept me from getting one until 5 years ago. I'm making up for lost time though. I've got two now and saving for an '06 Z06. [:D]

I knew a guy that had one...loved the look of the car. He was a senior in High School, and drove by where I was waiting for the bus, and occasionally would stop and give me a ride to school. Orange vette...but pretty.
The Christmas when I was 16, I told my parents I wanted a vette. We went over to my Uncle's house on Xmas Eve, as always, and dad sent me out into the garage to get everyone a beer. I saw a Yellow 77 sitting out there, and for some stupid reason thought OMG!!! My present! Well...it wasnt...my Uncle had bought it for his son.
Anyways, when I finally got the yellow 2001....it took me awhile to remember the incident at my Uncle's house..so..I guess that's when the bug really bit.

I've got all of you beat! My first word was "auto"!
However, I was 16-17 when I drove my first Vette, a black 57 that had been totally rebuilt, and he let me drive it alone. Burned rubber like it was going out of style, so I've been hooked on Vettes a while...[:>]

I think I shared this with my article on my restroration of my 63. My first time I saw a Corvette was 1955, a neighbor had a 53, then he purchase a 55 only a few months after his 53. Then from that year on he had one every other year.
My love affair, was see the 63 on a TV add, then going to local Chevy dealer for weeks until on came in. I sat in it for about an hour, until the saleperson gave me a sales broucher and asked to leave, but come back when I was old enough. Ironically the one I sat it was a Sebring Silver with Black Interior COUPE...sound familiar?
I have owned one Corvette from every generation; 1962, 1963, 1976, 1996, and 2002.
Favorite one...all...[:D]

I think I got you all beat. In May 1972 (I was 8) my Father was station at the United States Military Academy West Point, NY. It was a cush job for my Father since he just got back from 2 tours in Viet Nam. My Father took me to the football Stadium and there were 100's of Corvettes. The Graduating Seniors all bought Corvettes. This my friends was the defining moment. Those were the coolest cars anywhere. So when I graduated from College I bought an 86 Yellow Auto, boy things sure have changed. Except the color

I'm tied right there with ya Woods...I saw my first vette at 8 and knew then and there I had to have one. [:D] Rode in a '67 then, and drove my first one sometime in my twenties. Had to hit 30 before I could own my own one, though! Guess better late than never... [:">]
Now my problem is this; Corvettes are like potato chips - you CANNOT just have one!!! Argh, I'm gonna need a garage the size of Fair Oaks Mall...[:))]
