Andrej,

Can "first timers" register for this event? Janet wants to drive with an instructor at Spook in preparation for HPDE 1 events next season. This would be her first driving event with the club. We thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce her to the track.

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

As long as she has a high speed license, she can participate at Spook. There are no ride-alongs at Spook, any instructors there will be running in the event. Spook is a competition, not a school.

Has she signed up for the HPDC at Summit on July 30? She will get a ride with her instructor there... That would be a much better introduction to Summit than Spook...

From what I understood from the banter in another thread on this forum, that completing the event on July 30th satisfactorily *may or may not* qualify for the high speed license. A high speed license is required to run Spook. I know that Andrej and Brian were discussing the July 30th event in that thread, but I think it's still kind of 'up in the air' (I think Brian said he wanted to make the determination at the July 30th event as it is a new type of class being offered for the first time).

ALL RIGHT - my registration and check is in the mail tomorrow. Missed the last one because of my son's wedding, this one is questionable because the same son's wife is now pregnant and due about the middle of October. She is just gonna have to wait this year --- I'm going racing.

I didn't realize that grandpa had to be there. That's what cell phones are for.

Better take that boy of yours aside and tell him to get his priorities and his brain on straight. If he wants you to attend something he had better be sure to plan it far enough in advance that it doesn't interfere with the driving season. [:))] [:))] [:))]

Laurie,

It doesn't qualify her for a high speed liscense. It does however give her VALUABLE track time that she needs so she isn't thrown to the animals her first time out. [;)]

Looks like 8/4 is when I'll be sending in my check.

Classing questions:
Car came with sawblades 17x9.5 all around.
I have 17x9.5 z06 rims, stock tire size

If I leave the z06 rims and tires on - still group1?

Cut air lid, If I get a stock lid then still group 1?

If the answers to those are "still group 1" then I'll be 1SG.

I don't think I'll be buying track tires until next year - running out of funds to play with.

ABalanc - Event coordinator
DPatrick - corner worker
JPatrick - corner worker
DCorp - corner worker
BCorp - corner worker
JHiggins - corner worker
EKerns - corner worker
WRobinson - Scoring Chief
ZRobinson - Paddock Chief
CPellerin - photography
RUrick - photography assistant
BKolster - corner worker
AKostolanski - corner worker

We already have a couple of specialty Chiefs on board (Scoring and Paddock). I'm hoping some of the Chiefs from previous Spooks will coordinate their specialties again this year (Corner worker chief, Tech Chief, Course Marshall Chief, Registration Chief), but I have to check with them before I add them to this list. They manage their areas before, during and after Spook, relieving me of that responsibility.

Jim Beaupre will once again provide the FTD trophies for the event! The fastest man and woman each day get this honor!

Additionally, we need the remaining worker positions: registration (1-2 Friday night, Sat and Sun morning), starter (1-2 workers), timing (2-3 workers), corner workers (12-14 total all weekend), tech (3-4 Friday night and Sat morning). re-tech (1-2 all weekend), scoring (2-3 all weekend), paddock (2 all weekend), course marshall (1-2 all weekend), photography helper (1 all weekend). As you can see, this is quite a production. I sure hope I haven't forgotten too many other spots, but if I have, I'll just add them in!

If you are interested in working Spook, please send in your registration. Let me know if you have any interest in a particular area, and I'll make sure you work there. First come, first serve! This event is a hoot, everyone has fun, the workers as well as the drivers.

If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll try to answer them.

Red IIIE race car has no 1st Gear and 2nd you have to take off in and 3rd gear syncros are shot and its a 50/50 chance it will go into gear. So, I am bringing the old 66 vette that has 10 year old hoosiers and NO HP. I have a new ZF coming and will not be able to put it in due to traveling till the thursday before I have to leave to head that way.

Missed you guys the past 2 years, so I have to come and have fun. The old 66 is not a contender for any quick lap times but is still fun to dirt track around.

Just getting to see everyone again will be AWSOME! I wil be heading down Friday and should get to the host hotel by 6:00 PM to have some adult beverages and bench race.

We have a limit of 60 drivers per event. Everybody will get two runs/autox. This is the first year we have capped it that high. I hope we get that many, but it will require everybody to behave, ie no offs, etc.

Hey Guys, if you are interested Tire Van will be at the track on Spook Weekend. They have offered the following that weekend. This includes all street tires also so if you need your daily driver with new tires they will do it while you are at the track playing! What a deal! [:D]

To all Summit Point Event Participants…

SPECIAL PRICING ON TIRES! 10% OFF ALL TIRES ORDERED BY NEXT TUESDAY, SEP 26 - Here’s a great solution for everyone with tire needs for the Summit Point event – OR – if you just want a great deal on tires for any other car you'd like to bring to the event!

TireVan, the guys who do on site mobile tire installation, will take your order for tires, bring them to the track, and install them right there. They'll haul off any worn out tires. Their trucks carry a full blown performance tire shop on board including Hunter TC3500 mounting and 9700 Road Force balancing. These guys are good.

This means you can entirely skip the hassle of transporting extra tires and wheels. Of course, if you've already got your tires and wheels and a way to haul them they'll also be happy to handle your mounting/balancing needs. Their installation pricing will also be simplified and discounted at $30 standard with small surcharges for more advanced Road Force balancing depending on tire size. Standard passenger cars may be lower.

CALL THEM AT 877 847 3826, OR VISIT THE WEBSITE AT HTTP://WWW.TIREVAN.COM

Andre & Brian - I just found my HS license. It expired last year, any chance of getting renewed? I've had 2 weekends at Road Atlanta, 1 at Beaver Run and the NVCC event at Summit main this year. Moved from Group 1 to 2 for NASA events - and Jack can vouch for me [:D]

I might want to run one or two events in the 92 if I can get a fire extinguisher installed.

NOW let me ask you all something that is on the table in St Louis....(George you know this) How do you feel about factory lap belts in cars under group III in high speed events? And let me go one more step- and say, factory lap belts in 20 yr old cars in high speed events?

Just food for discussion [:D]

Man you DO know how to stir the pot don't you Brian? [>:)]

I don't believe that the Feds (NHTSC, DOT, etc) have started mandating a "wear out" date for lapbelts. I also don't believe that the manufacturers are imprinting a "manufactured" date on lapbelts. So I don't believe the "5 year" harness rule can be implemented.

You tell us what the competition directors are planning on doing with the C6 Z06 and I'll tell you what I think they should do about lap belts that are older then 5 years old. [:D]

I'm with Mike on this one. If the 20yo belt can't pass tech, ie worn, ripped, abraded, cut, etc, then it needs to be replaced. I'm all for safety, but in this case the existing rules suffice (see 13.4 in the rulebook, item 3 in the left hand column). Those with Group 1 and 2 cars that see they are overdriving their stock belts will put in harnesses without a rule to that effect. And if they don't, Darwin's rule will take care of them.... [:D]

AGREE no dates on factory lap belts.... BUT since we are ALL about SAFETY.... and the new Z has already posted times across the country VERY close to RP/RPAF times, one has to wonder if shoulder/lap belts are adequate for HS events.

Then one wonders farther in that Group II cars arent that far behind.... so perhaps everyone should have 4 point min harnessees....

We already mandate fire ext in ALL cars, roll bars in ALL verts, and Group III cars, fire suits also... so why not harnesses....

IF you want to play---- ya gotta PAY (for these things)

And no crying about harness cost either [:(] [:(]

It's not so much the car as it is the driver! Just because you have a Group 3 car, does not mean you're fast (present company excluded! [;)] ). Those C6 Z's are fresh everything (belts, frames, bushings, etc), put in a good driver and watch them beat a lot of Gr 3 cars from Gr 1!

z06racing
09-27-2006, 05:08 PM
NO doubt Andrej you are right.. but THAT is exactly the point on safety.... perhaps group one cars NEED harnesses. Because with the right driver they ARE that fast. Those trees dont care what group you are running when you slam them. [=;]

Thanks, Mike!

I have not recieved any more paid registrations, so our driver count is at 55-56 (one driver may have to cancel). I have recieved several emails/phone calls and we may have 3 more coming. I should say that two of those three are definite (SWalter and DWalter driving in L1SM & 1SM)... So if everyone shows up, we now have 58-59 drivers.

Outstanding! [=D>]

Z and I plan to be there early too. Where do you want the Club trailer? Should it be dropped off at the track or brought to the hotel?

Andrej, I think Z will stop and see you tonight (Thursday) at Bingo to get the trailer keys, but will leave the trailer there and we'll pick it up on our way out tomorrow.

Hey Wanda, I would say go ahead and just drop it off at the track where we had it set up last year. They need to set up and test all the timing equipment and I don't think we need anything out of there at the hotel. What do you think Andrej?

The BIG question is when / what time are they going to allow us in to drop trailers / start setup / etc. on Friday afternoon.

We can get out to the paddock at 5pm-ish.

The timing equipment has been tested and all the paid registrants entered into the database. I don't think there is anything in it that we'll need at the hotel.

BTW, I'll be getting in around 3-4pm with the brueskies, soft drinks, water and chips/dip.
