View Full Version : What is required for an NCCC HS License?
For the Spooktacular, I saw there is a requirement to hold an current NCCC license - Could somebody please list all that is needed / expected, in preparation for this event and when sign up deadlines (or anticipated fill-up times) are.
Thank you in advance - CC.

You need to attend a high speed driving school. FATT, NASA, CarGuys, Justin Bell, etc. Pass one of these, give me a certificate of satisfactory completion and you will get an NCCC high speed license and be able to participate in Spook.
I would guess that the NVCC driving clinic on July 30 would probably work too. It's not a high speed event, but all the basics will be covered. I'll check on that one for you.

I have my Certificate of Completion from Spring Mountain's Advanced Driving School, April 2006. Will that do?
Thanks again, CC.

...also your car must be able to pass tech and meet the requirements for the class.
Minimum, fire extinguisher, Snell 2000 helmet , rollbar for 'verts, Group III cars require rollbar and firesuit.

I am sure it will - if not, I will look to borrow Lil' Red's Black 89 [B-)]
...FWIW, I still do not find the reasoning behind the convertible w/ factory bolt on hardtop not counting as a solid roof vehicle as valid - But...whatever the rule is... [:-?] [:-B]
Group III cars require rollbar and firesuit.
Also, what is the breakdown for the various classifications??
Thanks in advance Mike! [B-)

National has agreed that a high speed driving school is adequate for an individual to pass (solo) to be issued an NCCC "High Speed" License. Our region has gone one step further and said, it is the ONLY way to get a HS license in the East Region.
SInce this event is not technically a high speed school where students will be encountering speeds in excess of 120mph, I will have to make the determination at the event if I feel it is adequate.
Since a license issued by me will be valid across the country, and we strive to maintain the same standards as such, this type of event has not been held before and no precedent has been set for it.
Lets say for now- its a good stepping stone towards a HS License.

Absoluely! But since the NCCC in their ultimate wisdom can't seem to put the most recent copy of the rule book on-line... {it IS the 21st century!} [:))]
On the other hand, if we threw the rule book out than the washers and waxers wouldn't have anything to read while they sit in their lawn chairs [:))] [:))]

WE are working on putting it on line.... but it is so ambiguious that it takes the law firm of Spynctyr/ Razaldazzal/ and Schmuck to interpret the danged thing. [:))]
Thats why I get paid the big bucks [:D]

The rule book is really rather easy... If it isn't expressly permitted, it not allowed. [:D]
Nah, you get paid the BIG BUCKS for resolving all the arguements [:))] I wouldn't have your job for all the tea in china [;)]

Glad you're going to make the school, Brian. It will be fun!
However, it's not the ability to get to 120mph that counts. One of the skills we will be practicing at the clinic is threshold braking (braking in a straight line, in a turn and to get around an object). My Miata has a tough time getting to 100mph on Jefferson, but if I threshold brake too late at 80mph, then even 80mph is a good speed to be learning with.
I'll certainly go with whatever you decide, but the clinc will be a good trainer for track days anyway!

Agree- SPEED is NOT the requirement. Thats where alot of students get mezmerized by HOW FAST CAN I GO? And then shit happens..
However, they need to FEEL what 120mph feels like (and thats just a number) it can be 110, 105 etc..because things happen alot faster at those speeds. I calculated at POCONO I am traveling almost a football field every second at 160mph.. think about that... alot of shit can happen in that distance.
This event will certainly be an asset to all.
