Concours 2006 is fast approaching (6/4/06) and I am once again calling out to the membership for assistance in pulling off this event. The event will be held again at Koons thanks to their hospitality and we will again benefit the Special Olympics with the proceeds. The C6 Z06 will be the theme of the event, and I am hoping that with the help of the club, we can donate even more money to Special Olympics this year, and make it the biggest and best Concours ever.

Below are descriptions of tasks needing completion for the show. Please read through each one and make a commitment to volunteer for at least one task. Even if you cannot work the day of the show there are tasks that need to be done leading up to the show. Many hands make light work! Actually, you will find that the show is a lot of fun to staff. Although mostly an indoor show, the weather is usually beautiful and there are burgers/dogs going on the grill, music, and wonderful cars and people to hang out with!

Judging: Judge the cars for the event. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! There is a seminar that we hold each year to teach you how to be a judge. "Newbies" will be paired with "veterans" so do not let that stop you from signing up! We need at least 16 judges, with the optimum number being 20. If you want your car to be in the show, you can still judge (a class that your car is not in) or work another aspect of the show if you wish.

Classification and tech: Classify the cars according to different classes in the show. There are different classes such as Concours, Modified, Custom, Wash and Show, etc. This information is given in the judging seminar as well. Teching cars involves checking the functions of the car (such as headlights, etc). The first people the entrants meet are the tech people. Three or four people needed in this job.

Operations and staging: Directs the cars to where they need to go, keeps the flow of the show moving, makes sure everything and everyone is in their respective places. We have a map layout of Koons, this will be VERY EASY this year! We try to keep each generation of Corvette together. Three or four people needed for this task.

Registration: Once through tech, the entrants are parked and directed next to registration. We need people to help process registrations via computer. We have a program set up (basic spreadsheet) that is very easy to use, it only takes a few minutes to learn. Paperwork is printed out and everything begins! One or two people are needed to run this aspect of the show.

Tabulation: Tabulates the judging results so that trophies and plaques can be awarded. This person/persons will be needed toward the end of the day after judging is finished to "get busy" with his or her calculator! One or two people are needed here.

Door: Those who "work the door" hand out the goodie bags, sell Concours Tshirts and raffle tickets, give each entrant a door prize ticket, collect donations for the Special Olympics jar, etc. Keeps records of sales and watches over the club cash box. Calls out door prize numbers and hands the respective winners their door prizes. Also directs entrants to the restrooms or anywhere they need to go. Three or four volunteers wanted for this job.

Prizes: Hunts down door prizes and raffle prizes from area businesses to give away at the show. Concours Director will give flyers/written information on club letterhead to each person in this role to assist this task. Prizes that are popular with show participants are gift certificates to dinner out, car related services, etc. Looking for three or four people to help with this.

Sponsors: Approaches businesses and individuals to help sponsor the show (provide money). Also receives flyers/written information on club letterhead to each person in this role to assist this task. There are many different levels of sponsorship and every little bit counts! Need three or four people pounding the pavement on this one.

Publicity: Approaches radio and television media to help advertise the show. Gathers cost information and other details...makes arrangements when decisions are made. Two people needed for this task.

Computers and printers: Obtain, set up, and run the computers and printers used in the show. Troubleshoots when necessary. In other words, techies needed! At least two people needed to help with this, please.

Photographers: Photographs each car and covers the event throughout the day. Compiles and posts the photographs on the club website event posting for all to enjoy. Two or more shutterbugs appreciated to guarantee good coverage for the event.

As you can see, some pretty simple tasks to do, but it requires bodies! Without club members coming forward, a show of this magnitude cannot be pulled off. So, sign up as a worker for Concours 2006...Sunday, June 4th is less than 4 months away! I can be emailed at lilredcorvette94@yahoo.com to sign up for any of these jobs, or please post here with your name and email address.

We are also looking for club members to enter the show. There are many classes to choose from...Concours, Wash and Show, Modified, Custom, Race-Prepared, etc...more details to follow. Remember, your entry fee ensures that we can put on the show as well as give more funds to the Special Olympics!

Laurie, sign me up for judging. I'm also entering my car, so I may have to leave for a few minutes while she's being judged.

Do you have the tax ID for those who want to donate? Also, I was looking for the club charter, but I didn't see it. Do we have one?

I'll try again with Starbucks and if they still don't want to help with the coffee or whatever, I'll ask Dunkin Donuts.

I'll also see if the local Hooter's can donate or come out and lend a helping hand.

What about Mid America, Ecklers, Zip, Corvette Central? Or do they get tapped out before now?

thanks, Jerry

Signed you up for judging. I replied to your post in the other thread stating that I would work on what you requested. I am very, very busy juggling all of the club stuff so please be patient...I work on club stuff daily before and after I come home from work, so keep that one in mind. [;)]

Yeah, I have a small problem with establishments that objectify women. But I may have to let that one slide if it means bringing in guys to pay admission to see the cars (and consequently the women). [:(]

Somehow I don't think that the words 'Concours d'Elegance' and 'Hooters' belong in the same sentence (considering their motto is 'delightfully tacky yet unrefined'). [:))]

Several participants told me that last year's show was 'first class'. I'd like if the same was said about this year's event as well. Despite the fact that corvettedom still attracts mostly males, there are more and more women coming these events and we should be mindful of that, as well as the Special Olympics kids who may be in attendance.

That being said, I'd prefer not to turn Concours 2006 into a boobfest. If anyone wishes to take on Concours next year and go this direction, then by all means go for it.

*Disclaimer: No, I am not a card-carrying feminist who burns bras and yes, I do shave my armpit hair.* This is about CLASS, what image and message we are sending as a club.

This is a Concours Worker Sign-up thread, let's keep our eye on the ball! [:)] Only volunteer sign-ups here, please.

Jerry,

Do you have the tax ID for those who want to donate? Also, I was looking for the club charter, but I didn't see it. Do we have one?

I will forward you the tax ID number when I receive this requested info from the treasurer. We do have the club charter in the club safety deposit box but no soft copy of it. We have an information sheet (tells how long we have been existence, what we do, etc) in soft copy that we can use for your purposes...I can forward that to you as soon as I receive that info in my email box.

What about Mid America, Ecklers, Zip, Corvette Central? Or do they get tapped out before now?

I already have them covered. [:)] What I really need are sponsorships and prizes from locals businesses and individuals.

I sent you and Mike Rierson an email with more info... [:)]

how big,
what type/size hitch, and
where is it?

I have access to an F-150 which pulled Mike Sarver's trailer without a problem. If I'm reeeallly nice, SWMBO may let me borrow it for the day :)

I think it is at the Sterling Ruritan parking lot where they let us store it, but can anyone confirm that and answer any of these other questions (size/weight/hitch info)?

Hey Mark, it's a 12' enclosed trailer. It pulls eazy and uses the same ball and light hook-up as mine.

Yes, the trailer is still at our place. It should be possible for Zoel to drop the trailer off at Koons for the Concour. I'll check with him. We are tied later in the day, our daughter is graduating from High School that weekend. Maybe Zoel could drop it off as long as someone else was able to take care of it at the end of the day.
