Corvette Forum's Jim Strathearn and Shenandoah Valley Corvette Club are sponsoring this year's Spring Skyline Drive Cruise on Saturday, April 29th, 2006.
For those that remember past Skyline Cruises, we always have a blast! Attendance has been anywhere from 100-200 or more 'vettes...the event keeps growing and growing each year.
Spring Skyline 2006 will benefit Blue Ridge Hospice, who took care of the final journey for a Corvette Forum member (and Skyline Cruise co-founder) who died on Christmas Eve 2004 of liver cancer. Registration will be a $10.00 donation to Blue Ridge Hospice, payable at the cruise start point in Front Royal, Virginia. Here's the CorvetteForum post for more info on both the charity and the cruise:
CorvetteForum Spring Skyline thread (http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1310836&forum_id=42)
Additionally, you must pay an entry fee to get into the park (good for 7 consecutive days), which is $10.00 or you may purchase an annual pass, which is now $30.00.
We will meet at the Newgate Shopping Center parking lot (corner of Routes 28 and 29 in Centreville) at 7:30 AM, drivers' meeting at 7:45 AM, leaving at 8 AM SHARP! We should arrive at the Front Royal Chevy dealership at around 9:00 AM, where those organizing the cruise will begin distributing goodie bags and door prizes. We will then leave for the cruise at 10:30 AM with a police escort through town. Please bring your family radios!
Please register on the events tab OR this forum post OR e-mail me at lilredcorvette94@yahoo.com ONLY if you wish to join the Centreville caravan to the cruise starting location, so that I may have enough direction sheets printed up for the drivers' meeting. Please use only ONE of the ways listed above to register, I will be
monitoring all of the avenues...
Directions to NVCC meeting point- Newgate Shopping Center is conveniently located at the intersection of Routes 28 and 29 in Centreville. It is also accessible via Route 66 exit number 53A. We will meet in the parking lot that faces Route 28.
From Route 66 heading west:
*Take Exit 53A.
*Take Route 28 South
*Take Route 29 South
*Turn into Newgate Plaza (if coming from 66 westbound it will be the first right...if coming from 66 eastbound it will be a left). There is a Mobil gas station, Joann's Fabrics, post office, and Trader Joe's in this plaza.

Alright! We'll be there. We enjoy the Skyline cruises. I guess the Park Authority is cooperating with us again. Hopefully, it will be top down weather so we can really enjoy Skyline Drive. Jerry & Irene

The Park Authority people are still being a$$hats but we're going through with the plans anyway.
See you there!

I would say to "F"orget the permit fees [:p]
Mustang (and other groups) went to the park after we did - they did not have to pay the permit fees, provide detailed route plan, and list all stopping points [:-/]

Bumpity...
Bumpity...
I understand the route once we kickoff, has changed a bit - should keep this fun & exciting [>:)]
I also heard today from a motorcycle (club) rider, that there was some sort of video surveilance going on, on Rt 211 [:-/]
...not sure what, if anything came of it however, I thought I would make mention of this.
...is it the 29th yet [:-/]
Looking forward to this [B-)]

The 29th can't come soon enough! I'll try to get a few folks at work interested, but at least two don't want to put the miles on their precious vettes... my question always is: why did you buy it if you don't want to drive it?
I'll keep trying to get them to join as well, but again, it means that they have to drive them once in awhile.

Irene and I have to back out of the skyline cruise. Instead I have to drive to North Carolina to take care of dad while his wife is having surgery. Dad is now wheelchair bound due to Parkinsons.
Enjoy Skyline for us!

I will be helping the Shenandoah Valley Corvette Club w/ parking and registration, etc, at the event.
I heard they have been successful at getting lots of door prizes, so there is a good chance that you will leave w/ more than just the memories.
See you there!

One thing I've found...it gets pretty windy/nippy up in the mountains...take a jacket just in case, folks...
Also got this from Val from the Shenandoah Valley Corvette Club, should anyone be interested:
Hi Laurie!
I wanted to let your gals and guys know that we are hosting an informal meet and greet at the Quality Inn (across the street from the starting point) for anyone that wants to come by and meet some of the other participants, or catch up with old friends........Friday night from 7-9. Light refreshments provided, BYOB. I thought I'd mention it because you all have some members that are pretty close and may want to attend........our long range plan is to have some kind of function, party, dance, etc. on the Friday evening before the cruises. Maybe by the fall we can get it all together!
See you Saturday!

Yeah, it's gonna be very chilly in the morning. After we hit the first stop, we'll assess top down but, at the speed on the mountain and the heater cranked up, it should be OK.
Unlike last Spring when we still had snow on the ground and a 35 mph wind blowing! [8-}] [8-}] [8-}]

Don't I know it. 'Callaway Chris' pelted me with a snowball...and started a snowball fight at one of the rest stops.
By FAR, the BEST Skyline cruise I have ever been on!
Having done this now for 5 years, I am more than qualified to make such a statment [B-)] For the folks new to this, thank you for bringing GREAT weather, as we usually have "soup" for Spring Skyline - this year was a refreshing change of pace [:D]
See ya' at Fall Skyline! [B-)]

Totally agree. Been doing this since 2003 and this was, by far, the best! The weather was so good, Laurie and I drove the Skyline twice!!
I'm gonna be using an aftersun lotion for awhile after being "topless" all day. My mug is cooked!
