Wow...cool!

I would love to try doing something like that...never have done it before. Is there any place that offers a race-course/performance driving class that doesn't cost like a million bucks to go to? [:O]

Absolutely! ...and you've fallen in with the dark side ummhahahahahaha [:D]

BSR at Summit Point offers a driving school on Fridays, called Friday At The Track (FATTs). NASA, National Auto Sport Association, has a Virginia regional group that does 2 day weekend events.

Both of these put you on a track with your car and an instructor. They also do plenty of class room instruction in conjunction with the track time.

These events run between $175 and $300. Now the more well known schools where you drive their cars will run you from ~$1000-$2500 from a 1 - 3 day school.

There are a number of us that do the FATTs and the NASA events.

Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into?! [:-s]

I can swing the $175-$300, the $1000-$2500 might be a bit much for me (although I like the idea of driving THEIR cars in case I really stink at this).

My car is an automatic...does that matter?

Manuals are more fun but automatics work. I did two FATTs with my '96 (automatic) before I got the '86 to play with.

Actually an auto might make getting your feet wet a little easier. (don't have to worry about downshifting, matching revs, etc.)

Don Kerndt and I did the Justin Bell school two years ago and it was a blast. We drove Z06s and Z28 Camaros around Virginia International Raceway.

It was expensive until I figured it was just a couple of ski vacations. [:-?] Even then it was expensive, but it was worth it.[:-$]

I never got around to learning stick. [:">] The '67 vette got sold before I could ask for manual drift driving lessons! It's just as well, I don't think I could multi-task that much in a car.

So, Black 396, do you have the '86 just for racing and the '96 for street driving? I use my '94 for street and am worried about the toll racing might take on the car...

I know it's built for that, but you know, I'm a protective "parent"![:D]

So, Black 396, do you have the '86 just for racing and the '96 for street driving?

That's the way it is now. When I started off I used the 96 for everything. Later on I wanted the fun of 'rowing' the gears while autocrossing or on the track. I used the 86 as a daily driver and an autocross/track car for a couple of years and then started making mods to it.

Now the 86 has so many mods it is on the edge of not being street legal. There are a number of people in the club who use their car for everything including shows.

A little 'spirited' driving once in awhile is good for them. Anything more than a couple of times a year and the maintainence starts to add up if you don't do it yourself.

Nice pics. That "S" looks challenging. I may have to drive out and take a look at it tomorrow.

I am suspicious of your last photo, though. The passenger looks familiar...is it a NVCC member?[;)]

Not that I'm aware of. That last pic is actually the curve from the Nürburgring in Germany that the pic above it was modeled after. Supposedly, each of the major turns on Shenandoah were modeled after turns from different famous tracks around the world.

I'm not sure how much is truth and how much is hype. The reviews I've seen on Shenandoah are that it will a very technical track to drive. Probably more so then Jefferson.

Check out this link and take a look at Summit. The Shenandoah Club Circuit looks pretty interesting.

While you are at it check out VIR, especially the proposed long course (its also been referred to as the Grand course). Supposedly the Mazda Club will be doing it this spring.

Loved the pictures. Looks like it will be some kind of fun. How long is it supposed to be? Do you think the car will be ready before the track? - Just kidding.

It supposed to be just about 2.3 miles for the long course. When it is finished there are supposed to be somewhere between 3 and 5 different configurations.

The car had better be ready now! [:D] Especially since we're going to VIR in February. Have you signed up yet?
