A huge thank you to Koons and Joe Malo. Joe basically worked on 10 vettes at the same time and fielding question all nite. I got out of there at 10:35pm and he was still there working.
For those of us that used his tools....A mechanic NEVER loans them out, its their bread and butter. I hope everyone is aware this is very rare and is very much appreciated.
Once again thanks Joe

Thanks to Joe for the use of the tools (a big deal, I know) and the lifts. Special thanks also to all those who helped me with LilRed, I learned a lot.

Joe Malo... truly a gem of a NVCC member. Thank you so much for everything last night. If you need ANY help at Spook there should be plenty of help for you!

Yes! A mighty big thank you to Joe. As a mechanic of different sorts I can say that Mike is right! No mechanic loans out his tools! Period! That in it self is a selfless person, and that is very rare in the car industry. Once again, THANKS Joe! [=D>]

Ditto to all the comments made. No way I could have done the work w/o a lift and Joe's suggestion on a different socket wrench.
Thanks Joe!!

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the shop night at Koons - what an exceptional opportunity for NVCC members and certainly most generous of Joe Malo and our friends at Koons. Might I suggest that a nice "Thank You" card be mailed to Joe/Koons on behalf of NVCC & those that were able to work on Vettes.
Perhaps the shop night might become a regular event - my driver's headlamp is beginning to act up!

We try to have a shop night about once a quarter depending on Joe's availability and Koons' permission.
Do you have a C4 or a C5?
If its a C4 what year?
I ask because I've rebuilt a couple of C4 assemblies.

Indeed I would appreciate whatever expertise you might offer based on your experience in rebuilding the assemblies. My Corvette is a 1991 C4.
Thanks!

Go to the C4 tech section on the corvetteforum and ask them what size plastic bushings you need to buy from Home Depot or lowes.
If I recal they come 2 in a pack, get a total of 6 cause if one light is acting funny the other one isn't far behind.
You will need some coarse sand paper to take the diameter of the bushings you buy down a little.
To disasemble the motor you need to remove the headlight bucket from the car. If I reacl its 4 bolts holding in the assembly then disconnect the wires.
Take detailed pictures and notes of how the motor is mounted.
Unbolt the motor and use a drift punch (or skinny nail) to drive out the pin holding the motor to the assembly that moves.
There will be 3 or four small bolts holding the cover on over the gears, remove them and save the gasket.
Your housing will be full of dust from the old bushings.
Clean it out well! if you use a solvent regreasw the worm gear and the main gears.
Test fit your plastic bushings, use sandpaper to reduce the diameter until they fit snug.
Put it all back together and you are done.
The major Corvette parts companise sell a rebuild kit with the three busings for around $30 if you don't want to mess with shaving the Home Depot busings. However the Home Depot parts will cost you less than $10 for enough busings to do both sides!
If you bring it to the next GBM I can show you where all the bolts are and the all important drift pin connection.

I really appreciate your advice on this topic. I will be attending the Fall Skyline Drive cruise coming up in a few weeks - will you be there?
