NVCC member and former President Tammy Shiner lives in Mandeville, LA which is just north of Lake Ponchatrain. I have not been able to contact her with by phone or email. They were just showing on the TV devastation in Sidell, LA which is not far from her. If anyone has any information on her, or hopefully Tammy if you see this, please let us know if she is okay.

Judy,
I did some research on this for you. Manddeville has a lot of trees down, no power, or running water. However the damage is not as bad as some of the areas around them (No total devistation). Most structures are ok in the area. They do have dial tones, but cannot call out, or call in. If you go to the weather channel web site you can check up on each town/city, and leave messages for people.
I hope this helps you out.

Thank you George! It was very nice of you to do this. I didn't know about checking on individual towns.

Tammy has returned my email. This is what she has to say:
"Judy,
We are safe and in PA. Please let everyone know in the club. My house survived but my employment did not. New Orleans is in ruins. Mandeville, LA (just north of Lake Ponchartrain) has drinkable running water, some sewer and phones. They do not expect power for another three weeks. Ritz-Carlton is attempting to locate all of their employees and re-assign everyone. I think I may end up in Florida(Orlando). I will need to take this one day at a time. I have my life and my home survived. I never thought I would see such devastation in my lifetime. Most of my friends are now homeless. A lot of people did not take their animals with and they will slowly die locked in their own homes. I will return to help those people who need help. I am still a lucky woman. Both of my Vettes survived, but now who can afford to drive them with the gas prices. If a station has gas in my neighborhood, the wait is over three hours. Premium gas has hit $4.00 in Hazleton, PA. I will remain here until I figure out what to do.
Please pray for everyone and I'll keep in touch.
Thank you for thinking of me!!!!
Tammy"

I'm glad she is ok. We raised $340 at Ruritan bingo last Thursday just by asking the players to donate what ever they wanted. Those folks down there sure to need help.

Yes, they need a lot of help. My firm is matching any donations up to $1,000 per person.

I'm glad everything turned out ok with her. [:)] My mom is looking for about 4 or 5 of her friends in Gulf Port.

For those of you not on the NVCC email list, here's Tammy's latest update:
"To all of my NVCC family and friends,
Words cannot describe everything that has happened to me since August 29th. Ritz-Carlton is re-assigning me somewhere in the US. on temporary duty.(unknown at this time). I have one last meeting in Miami on the 19th to see my colleagues before we are all deployed on our task assignments. My home has become an evacuation center for those less fortunate. I only had a tree crash through my living room window and take out a section of my fence. We are still missing approx. 123 employees which we are desperately trying to locate. I am numb to everything I have seen on TV and the good emails equal the bad emails. I never thought I would know at least 100 people whose homes are still completely under water. For those of you who have experienced the " Big Easy", it is an intriguing, easy-paced, history filled city with European charm and some old Southern diehards that go back to the Louisiana Purchase. New Orleans unfortunately has a poorly educated, low income population with people who survived Hurricane Betsy in 1965 and Hurricane Camille in 1969 and thought they could "ride out the storm". (This is where hurricane parties started).
When our parish president came on TV and told us to write our next-of-kin in permanent marker on our forearms and to make sure we take an ax into the attic in case the waters started to rise..my entire neighborhood packed up at the same time and evacuated. If all of you can raise awareness and pass this on to NCCC, maybe can secure more funds. I am willing to sell one or both of my Corvettes so I can help those who have nothing. Our hotel manager just came back from Bowling Green a week before the hurricane. I had asked him to take a picture of our NVCC brick at the museum for me. Last year, he had purchased a' 72 vette and now has been bitten by the Corvette bug. He asked me what to expect with repairs, restorations, etc. I could only think of Ed & Jan Masek, Ken Taggart, Captain project '67 Maury Brumm, project hope George S w/ '72, Ray Brunning, and a whole host of us that have endured such projects. I'm sorry to say he lost his home and his Vette.
I am lucky. Material possessions mean nothing in the scheme of things, only life. As of today, I do not personally know anyone who has lost a family member. Darleen and my two cats are fine.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and be thankful, as you never know how fast your lives can change.
Do what you can to help those less fortunate.
Much love,
Tammy"
