Who's put a hitch on thier C5, where'd you buy it and who
installed it for you, inc wiring etc? Looks like I'll be buying
a Harbor Freight trailer to tow track tires/tools in april/may
and need to get a hitch installed prior to getting the
trailer.

Thanks,

I can't speak specifically about the C5 but Zeibert's in Fairfax (Redline Enterprises, I think they're called) installs Class III hitches on exotics. I saw them installing a hitch on a Mercedes a couple of weeks ago.

Talk to Ralph or Curtis Judge ( chjtoken@aol.com ) Ralph had one on his car for awhile and he sold it to Curtis I believe. Curtis had one on his 1st C5 and one on his Z06 now.

With all the hoopla over my wifes car I went out and bought
a tow vehicle, so no need to put a hitch on the C5 =).

'94 F-150 Supercab Mark III Conversion.
Metallic Red, 2wd, 351 winsor, tow package
Class III hitch, bedliner, Center console cooler
Leather interior, power everything.

Truck was garage kept and only has 60k miles
and was used to tow a 16' bass boat occasionally.

I'm rated at 10,000 lbs but had to have a 3.73 to get that. The trailer by itself is about 1800, add 3100 for the car and another 400-500 with extra tires, gas and tools.

I've got the longer trailer with the double frame. Its probably the heaviest open trailer I've seen. The extra length is nice but the extra weight is a real PITA when it comes to hills.

MIKE: 1800lb trailer? Aluminum? My hydraulic tilting trailer is 3300lb and the car about 3100lbs. My 1500 Silverado pulls fine with the 3.55 rear. Maybe its the red racing stripe on the truck that pulls them hills! [:))] And since we hijacked this one, my Z06 has a draw tight hitch on it for my small trailer.. Tows wonderful at 75mph like its not there! [;)]

The only time I ever weighed it was when I took a load of wood and lawn rubish to the landfill. 1800 was what they said the weight was. (It was on the truck so maybe some tongue weight was picked up by the pickup). On the other hand 3300 sounds immense. That hydualic ram must be a monster. [:))]

What size motor do you have in the truck, 6.0 liter or diesel?

I will be selling my Bri-Mar trailer when the enclosed one gets finished and delivered.

It 18 ft removable fenders. C5's fit perfect on it

I might be interested. Let me know what you're looking to get for it. My only problem is that I live in a town home and don't have the space available to store it, which is why the little trailer pulled behind the vette (like CHJ) was a preferred option.

I found this old thread asking for sources to install a trailer hitch. Other than one reference to Zeibert's in Fairfax, it mostly seemed to get offtrack.

I am looking to install a hitch for a tire/wheel trailer and looking for a hitch source. I have contacted Zeibert to get pricing, but am also wondering if anyone has alternative recommendations for installers.

GO to your friendly corvette catalog on line -------->ecklers (http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=40460&dept%5Fid=1406)

I have this one on my car... works like a charm--- doubles as a tow hook location when you nose dive in a sand trap and become embarrassed. And STUCK. [:))]

And you hijackers--- behave yerselves.

Thanks. I did see the Ecker's hitch. However, I am hoping to find an installer also. I don't have the time, tools, rack or inclination to be bending metal and dropping mufflers to get it on, and am hoping to find someone local who knows what they are doing--especially relative to Vettes.

Cant help ya on the installers... unless you are taking a vacation to the poconos for presidents day and get some skiing in too. [;)]

You will need a lift for sure as the mufflers are smack dab in the way. Good Luck!
