All,

Due to overwhelming requests by members, We are
having a shop night on March 23rd, 2005, at Koons
Chevrolet in Tysons, just in time for Spring!!
Shop Night is an event unto itself. It's the
opportunity for you to bring in your car or truck, and
work on it yourself or with others, with guidance from
Joe Malo, the Certified Corvette Mechanic at Koons.
Lifts, tools, etc., are all there, and best of all,
it's free!! Free, because....you're doing the work
yourself. Everyone, even those not familiar with the
car, are encouraged to come as well, as this is a neat
chance to learn about the workings of your vette.
Oil changes, tire changes, brake changes,
installing that cold air system, or general things
like asking "What does that there thingamajob do?" can
all be accomplished that evening. Typically there are
a few experts around as well who will gladly dive in
and assist you.
Shop Night starts with us gathering at the GARAGE
entrance (not the shop entrance where you drop your
car off) around 6 to 6:15 PM, and then after some
gabbing and bragging, bringing your car into a bay
where work begins. We like to have things wrapped up
by around 10.
This is usually followed by a few people going out
for a few cokes or a beer, (we occasionally even buy
Joe one, to bring his stress level back to normal.)

Take note that the normal General Business Meeting
to be held on Tuesday, March 22nd, WILL NOT happen.

Questions or comments, email me, as usual.

Jeff

Great! Glad to hear it. I've been looking forward to it.

As Jeff said, even if you don't plan on doing anything to your car, it is a good time and gives you a chance to meet and talk to Joe if you haven't yet. {When he isn't being barraged with questions <GRIN>}

Mike,

I heard your machine is a freaking BEAST!

ssssshhhhhh...

I think Joe likes it. [;)]

I talked to him for a while and I think he's going to try to get in a couple of autocrosses with us this year. {On top of the Summit event}

I need to give him a chance to really play with it later this year. [:D]

Prolly gonna pass on this, I bombard Joe enough when I take LilRed into Koons. I've got a lot I want/need to do but need the time and money to do so.

Are Shocks/Sways changable during a shop night? Not sure
what alls involved, though they should be simple bolt ins
since they are standard Z06 parts. Anyone know how much
of a pain they are to change in a C5?

Black396
02-16-2005, 04:57 AM
Don't know about a C5 but if they are anywhere near as easy as a C4 you can probably do both. Either one for sure unless you run into a problem like not having the correct bushings for the sway bars.

I just did the shocks on the '96 in the garage. MAYBE two hours total counting jacking up the car, putting it on jack stands, removing the wheels, etc. Probably closer to an hour and a half. With a lift, probably 45 minutes to an hour the first time you do it.

Can anyone attend? If I can't figure out my ASR/ABS issues i would like joe to take a look with the TECH 2 scanner....

thanks..

Shop nights is a NVCC members thing. Were you planning on joining the club again?

I'm not sure if the requirements are different for a returning member versus a new propective member.

If you are interested we have a General buisness meeting tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at Koons in Tysons. All the information and members will be there. [:D]

Robert...

On the homepage...left side...click on "Join". Print out the membership application. Bring it to tomorrow night's meeting with the $10 application fee. Membership requirements are still the same, prior member or not. You need to attend 2 club events (including one General Business Meeting) during a four-month period following receipt of your application.

After you have completed these requirements, your application will be reviewed by the NVCC Council. Upon acceptance, you will be assessed dues in the amount of $66.00 for the first year*, which includes $36 for NVCC dues and $30 mandatory NCCC dues. (Dues for renewing years is $20.)

*NVCC dues are prorated during the year.

Regular club meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of every month (except December) at 7:30 at Koons Chevrolet in Tysons Corner Virginia. Pull into the dealership, park on the roof, entrance is right there, walk down the hallway, we have a big meeting room.

Hope to see you. [:)]

You can submit your application via mail to her since you cannot make the meeting. The address should be on the app...or you can simply ask her in your e-mail.

Robert was a member before he went to Germany for a couple of years. Someone should check out the by-laws and find out if he still needs to do the two event thing, etc. to join again.

Robert, I checked with Judy regarding the by-laws about this issue at Tuesday night's GBM. Unfortunately, you still need to do the two event thing, etc. to re-join the NVCC.

Sorry...just thought I'd report back. Hope you decide to join again and see you at some events!

Robert,

If you have a break in your NCCC membership, you have to pay the additional $10 to get back in. You get the same number, but it still costs as if you have never been in NCCC.

NBD, right?

Andrej

PS NVCC and NCCC seem to have some strange rules/interpretation of those rules regarding readmission. So, unless you've turned into a shady arms dealer [:D] while abroad, you should not have a problem meeting those requirements again. As far as I'm concerned, joining this forum and participating here completes one of those! [B-)]

Anybody ever put in a CLB? How about the CAGS Eliminator?

Looks to do both of these at Shop Night and would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Havent done the CLB but a firmware upgrade is supposed to
fix that problem and i do belive its covered under recall.

I have put in a CAGS Eliminator, takes 20 seconds once the cars
up on a lift.

I'm planning to do the CAGS; sounds like it's no problem. What tools are needed?

As for the CLB, Corvette Forum is still full of reports of folks having the recall performed but still encountering column lock. Any NVCC members ever encounter this problem, particularly after the recall?

I had CL problems before Joe updated the software, none afterwards, and no more fuel gage issues.

Tools for CAGS are just your fingers, maybe a flathead screwdriver.

I'm not following when you say Additional 10... I need to pay 76 to join? the 66 + 10 additional? We can talk about it at the next meeting or event when I'm in town.

Looks like I'm heading back to the airport mid march for a few weeks. I'll try to come by for shop night and to meet everyone if I'm here... I still work for the military...

ArmyVette
03-21-2005, 06:22 PM
Bill Appal (spelling?) from Koon's Chevy quoted me $75 for the entire installation.

I'm providing all of the equipment and hardware of course. I got the entire package from Radioandmore.com for $405 including shipping. That includes the CD changer, wiring harness, brackets, and mounting hardware. The next cheapest that I found was over $600 through one of the Corvette Forum vendors.

How late is the parts dept open? I need to buy a PCV Valve
in the hopes that it will reduce my oil usage.

Black396
03-22-2005, 05:36 PM
Not sure about the parts department hours, but you can get a PCV valve at any auto parts store (PepBoys, Advanced Auto, AutoZone, etc.)

Unlike other a lot of other items, a PCV valve, is a PCV valve, regardless of where you buy it.

Would love to know if the CLB recall, rear seal TSB, and some of the convertible-specific TSBs had been applied.

Thanks James and the Koons crew for all the help and advice
getting the Shocks and Swaybars on!

The car feels much more planted and even highway lane
changes feel solid. I took some back roads to get home
and every hard turn I took felt like i was on a sunday cruise
